Stash Report April 3, 2016

It's amazing but this is my first stash report for 2016.  This week has seen the first movement in the stash.  I've been sewing but all my finishes have been with upholstery and home dec fabric that I don't track.

This week I added fabric for QOV pillowcases.

Fabric In this week   4.5 yards
Fabric Out this week  0

Total Fabric In this year  4.5 yards
Total Fabric Out this year  0

Net fabric  -4.5 yards

I should have some fabric going out next week if I get the binding done.

I'm lining up with Patchwork Times

Design Wall and Stash Report

Design Wall

What is up on my design wall today?  This simple little baby quilt.  The poor thing has been hanging here for well over two months.  I am determined to get it quilted this week.  It's not hard it's just time.

What little sewing time I've had has been used making new blocks and trying to tame the chaos.

Stash Report Week 7, 2015

I've gotten to the sewing room more days this week than last.  Mostly in little bits of time and that's OK because it's getting stuff done.

I've been cutting up scraps and working on finishing up a Quilt of Valor.  Good news is the quilt is ready to go to the quilter !! That means I get to count out the fabric for the top and back.

I didn't get a photo of the top (it was dark when I finished) but I'll show it when I get it back.

[caption id="attachment_2901" align="aligncenter" width="300"]QOV QOV[/caption]

Added this Year: 41 Yards
Used since last report: 8.5 Yards
Used this Year: 11.5 Yards

Still in the red but it is early days yet.  I'll be traveling next week and there could be fabric involved. Just saying.

Stash Report Week 52, 2014

This week was spent adding and subtracting.  I admit for the past month (maybe a little longer) the fabric receipts and cutting log have piled up.  It's kinda like doing your taxes, you know you need a better shoe box system but you just want to cut into the beautiful fabric and sew it up.  So you end up like me.  Setting in front of the adding machine on Christmas Day tallying the fabric numbers and remembering all the fun you had sewing.

I'm counting out several quilts this week.  Some are in their new homes and some decided to remain at home.

Mr. Bill claimed the Black and Red Cats.  The Christmas quilt will grace the guest room next year.

[gallery ids="2873,2874,2862"]

I also get to count out  the Christmas quilts I wrote about here.

[gallery ids="2867,2864,2865"]

One nice thing about procrastinating is the out going numbers really add up. :)

Added since last report: 12 Yards
Added this Year: 152.75 Yards
Used since last report: 40.25 Yards
Used this Year: 234.75 Yards
Net Used this Year:  82.00 Yards

I'm thrilled with using 82 yards this year.  I stopped adding to the stash in September, only buying what I needed to finish a project for the last 100 days of this year.  I even made it through a vacation with out buying fabric.  Look out January!!!

I'm looking forward to more usage in 2015.  I'm joining Michelle's Challenge to make baby quilts.  My goal is twelve baby quilts next year

I'm also planning twelve Quilts Of Valor next year.

I may even finish up some of the quilts on my UFO list.

So there will be fabric used in the New Year.

This has been such a useful tool for me.  So I will continue to track my usage next year.

Thank You to Judy for having the stash report it helps keep me on track.

Stash Report Week 37, 2014

It would seem that this has turned into a monthly stash report for me.  In true Harriett fashion it's not even a end of month report but mid-month.  :)

It's suppose to be in the 100's today and I'll be working on a Christmas quilt.  Some how that just sounds wrong.  But that what September is like in Southern Calif.

I've been doing well not buying unless I need it for a project.  So my yardage in went right back out.  Love it when that happens. I have three quilts at my quilter so I can count out the tops..

Added since last report: 6 Yards
Added this Year: 110.75 Yards
Used since last report: 21.0 Yards
Used this Year:  174.0 Yards
Net Used this Year 63.25 Yards

Holding fast to being on the positive side. So if you are only interested in fabric you can stop now and head back over to Judy's for more stash reports.

So what else have I been up too:

We lucked into some old iron beds.

[caption id="attachment_2816" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Bring home the beds Bring home the beds[/caption]

and I've been sorting them

[caption id="attachment_2818" align="aligncenter" width="225"]sorting beds sorting beds[/caption]

Then there was a hutch that was just asking for a bit of paint

[caption id="attachment_2819" align="aligncenter" width="225"]painted hutch painted hutch[/caption]

Some Halloween burlap that became pillows and upholstering for a chair

[caption id="attachment_2815" align="aligncenter" width="225"]Fun Halloween Burlap Fun Halloween Burlap[/caption]

Oh can't forget a couple of quilts too.

Stash Report Week 27, 2014

This week just flew by.  I think the second half of the year goes so much faster than the first half, maybe cause it's all down hill. :)

I did a bit of stash enhancement but to balance it out I did some de-stashing too.

On a short little trip to buy fabric for ONE pillowcase 10 yards of fabric found a new home

SR27 1

There is pillowcase fabric and the red in back is for the QOV I'm working on.

[caption id="attachment_2784" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Love these bottle caps Love these bottle caps[/caption]

Then my sister told me she needed to make baby blankets so this stack of flannel is on it's way to here.

SR27 5

I made a new drag-a-long blanket for my nephew

[caption id="attachment_2785" align="aligncenter" width="300"]new blanket for J new blanket for J[/caption]

Oh and I did make that pillowcase. I decided that it needs a mate so that's on the list for this evening.

SR27 4

So when all  the math is done I still have more fabric going out than in.  Which is a first for me at the half way point.

Added this week:  10.25 Yards

Used and donated last week: 31 Yards

Stash Report Week 26, 2014

Half way through the year and I'm ahead of the fabric.....that is a good thing. :)

I had some time to work on the sewing room and fabric this week. I spent some time sorting through the mountain of flannel. It's still a mountain just not as tall as McKinley anymore.  The yardage is now contained, well almost  in six bins and the scraps and small pieces are in one bin, ok one and a half  for sorting later this month summer, those are the clear bins setting on the side.   The blue bin on the top has flannel that has been pulled for projects and either cut or started.   I put the current sewing projects in bags for the summer  (so I don't lose them) while I tackle the sewing room.

Yikes that sounds more like NINE bins, cause they all are full of flannel.  I think it's past time for a sew-in at the Brick Sidewalk.

Overall I'm happy with where I am with my stash numbers for half way thru the year.

Stash Report Week 24, 2014

I'm  happy to say that I used fabric this week that I can count out.  I'm super happy to say that I had no fabric coming in.

Yes that's right I used a whopping three quarters of a yard for a pillow back.  I like to write it out like that cause is seems like so much more..right?  It was a big pillow.

[caption id="attachment_2710" align="aligncenter" width="225"]Feed Sack Pillow Feed Sack Pillow[/caption]

This was my first flap back pillow so I made the back pieces different on purpose cause I knew they would not match up. That's a skill I may or may not work on. :0)

Stash Report Week 23, 2014

It's been a while since my last stash report. Let's just say that May was a really long fast month.

During the month of May there was some sewing and some stashing.  I'll just say it's a good thing there isn't an upholstery fabric stash report.  Here are  few of the fabrics acquired in the last month or so.

[caption id="attachment_2699" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Retro Kitchen Retro Kitchen[/caption]

Love the retro kitchen appliances and I finally settled on fabric for my nephew that is due very very soon.

[caption id="attachment_2698" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Baby Boy Baby Boy[/caption]

When all the numbers were tabulated  I was totally surprised.

Added since last report:  26.00 Yards
Added this Year: 91.50 Yards
Used since last report: 18.50 Yards
Used this Year: 92.50 Yards
Net Used this Year 1.00 Yard

I am one yard ahead of the game.   I really thought I'd be back in the red and would have to start digging fast.  :)  If I get some time in the sewing room this week hopefully I can increase my lead.

Stash Report Week 17, 2014

Oh my, week 17 already. Last Sunday in April, for a month that seemed like it lasted forever it sure zipped by, know what I mean?  It means I've only a few more days to finish my goals. Yikes nothing like a deadline to get me moving.. :)

There has been fabric used and counted out these past two weeks. I'm working on my Hands2Help challenge and working on my stack of UFO's

After being in the red for most of last year, I'm basking in my 11 yards out of the stash.

  •  Added this Week:  .50 yards

  •  Used this Week : 7.00 yards

  •  Used this Year:   74.00  yards

Today I'll be quilting this scrappy tumbler, that means even better numbers IF I stay out of fabric stores.

Stash Report Week 15, 2014

I really thought I'd only missed one week of the stash report. Really where does the time go so fast.

I bought 3/4 yard of fabric this week, it was in the remnant bin and just what I needed for a tote bag.

SR15 2

I've been on Spring Break here, which is really more mental than a physical change. I mean really upholstery class in the evenings is hardly a full schedule. :)  But I'm using the break to do a super gigantic clean out of the old homestead.  Yes there have been full trash cans and two donation trips so far and I've another week to go.

On Thursday I powered through my list for the day so I could spend some quality time here...

[caption id="attachment_2623" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Quality Time Quality Time[/caption]

The result is fabric to count out.  Woo-hoo!

I'm thrilled to be back in the black, using more than buying is a good thing here this year

DWM March 24, 2014 and Stash Report Week 12

It's Design Wall Monday and Catch Up Stash Report here at the Brick Sidewalk.

The Black and White with Charms is down off the wall. The center has been sewn together and now I have to think about borders. So new on the wall is the Disappearing 4 Patch.

[caption id="attachment_2594" align="aligncenter" width="300"]DW 3-24 DW 3-24[/caption]

The fourth row is at the machine to have the side sashing sewn. This is my LMOF challenge March goal to have the center completed. I think I might maybe make it.

Up in the corner are three blocks of 16 from my flannel cutting. I'm making one or two blocks each evening and should have them completed in a little over a week. They will be a quilt for the Hands2Help Challenge

Stash report Week 12. I used a bit so I'm heading in the right direction.

Only three extra yard in but I'm finishing the binding on a couple and have on at the quilter so I'm thinking I could be out of the red next week.

No sewing happen yesterday it was a total day off with a drive in the country.  Sometimes it's just good to get out and go for a drive.

Stash Report Week 11, 2014

It's Sunday again and time to come clean. :)

You know how I've been trying to use up my flannel? Well it's like this.  The flannel was acquired over time and mostly at big sales, so it's a bit of a jumble and I knew going in that there would most likely almost certainly be times when I would have to pick up a bit to finish off a quilt.  This was one of those weeks.  I really really truly walked into the store just to get 1 yard of grey flannel.....but.....it was on sale and I know I need some white for the next quilt. OK so far no problem.  Then I had to wait for my turn at the cut table...What should my wandering eye find but a new fabric that will border the disappearing four patch, which just happens to be my UFO of the month.  So three and one half yards later it was over.  I could go home and cut into that grey and this week it can get sewn on. Whew, that was a close one, I'm sure if the line was longer the yardage would have gone up.

Lucky me I also had a bit of yardage going out. I took some fabric to quilt club to share and  I made QOV blocks for Kevin the Quilter's block drive.

[caption id="attachment_2568" align="aligncenter" width="300"]QOV Blocks QOV Blocks[/caption]

This a real easy block to make as long a I was paying attention, ask me why so many have a navy blue stripe. :0  Go check it out there are prizes.

Stash Report Week 9, 2014

Stash report time again and I'm still on the negative side, but I'm digging sewing my way out.

I finished up this little baby quilt so I could count out fabric and the best part is no fabric coming in.

I spent several hours today cleaning up, putting away and folding fabric.  It was the perfect day for it because tomorrow my quilting buddy and I are heading out for the San Diego Quilt Run today.  My fabric closet is bursting at the door and my mountain of flannel is just way to much, so that is what I'll be thinking about tomorrow while I wander the quilt shops looking for inspiration for using up all this wonderful fabric.

Stash Report Week 8, 2014

Sorry I missed last week, did you miss me? While I was away there was fabric acquisition, are you surprised? I thought not.  I know what you are thinking, how can she tag along at a HAM Radio Convention and end up with fabric?  I'm telling you it's a talent. Remember when I went to the model railroad show ?

Anyway some of the HAM's spouses (and there are lady HAM's too) brought in guest speakers on different subjects just for us tagger-a-longers. (I just made that up).  One seminar was on quilting and using the strip tube ruler which of course I just happen to own (and have used) but I'm always for picking up new pointers, and I did.

The speaker was from Grandma Jo's quilt shop which happen to be just down the street.  We stopped in on our way out of town. I wanted to show Mr. Bill their zing binding. I'm putting it on the baby quilt I'm finishing up so you can see it on Friday. This is the long way to say I bought 2 yards of fabric.

That puts me a little deeper in the red, buying more that I've used. Not to worry I've three quilts that I'm working on binding and then I can count out some fabric.

PS: Grandma Jo's Quilt Shop in Yuma Az.  Had a great selection of fabrics and the ladies were very friendly. I could not find a web site and one is not listed on their business card. If you are going through Yuma AZ , just google Grandma Jo's and stop in for a shopping break.

Stash Report Week 6, 2014

I received some good news this week.  I'm getting another great nephew and being the Great Aunt that I am I went shopping because, and I'm sure you understand this, I didn't have a thing to make my new Nephew a quilt with.  So really I needed some really cute boy fabric in the colors that Mom has picked out. Right?

[caption id="attachment_2513" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Baby Boy Baby Boy[/caption]

Now we all know what happens when you go to the fabric store that's having a sale after several months weeks of not purchasing fabric, but still sewing your little heart out. Right you need to restock some basics, think five yards of Kona white.  Then as you wander the stacks while very patiently waiting for your turn at the cutting table, quilts start dancing in your head and next thing you know you walk out with a whole new project list..  Just kidding, only one additional quilt and some flannel I needed for our giving quilts.

Lucky for my numbers that I finished up the t-shirt quilt and backing and is at the quilters, made some binding and gave some fabric to a friend for a quilt.

Stash Report Week 4, 2014

Fabric was purchased this week. My quilting buddy and I went to Road To California Quilt Show on Friday and I walked away with 7 yards of fabric (at $5.00 a yard and I know exactly what I want to use it for) and one pattern.  The good news is that there was also fabric going out this week. So it's all good and I'm still ahead on using my stash.

Stash Report Week 3, 2013

It had to happen and really for it not to happen before now is surprising.  That's right I bought fabric. Needed to freshen up my Valentine collection.

Then on the out going side I finish my Flannel Woods, made the back and it's at the quilters, I get to count some out.

[caption id="attachment_2461" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Flannel Woods Top Flannel Woods Top[/caption]

On the Flannel Giving Quilts I kitted two more quilts (and started sewing one). I'm still working on the best way to track the flannel. At the end of the year it will be combine with the outgoing fabric number. I'm just tracking it ...well..just cause, I guess.  But it's counted when cut and the general stash is counted when done.  I think I'm over thinking this but I should get it straight by the end of the year.

Well I'm still on the plus side for fabric out and that is a good thing.

Stash Report Week 2, 2014

So far so good, no fabric coming in for the first time in 52 weeks I'm a head of the game. :)

I used some for the binding on my Snowman Quilt, and some for my Woods quilt.

[caption id="attachment_2436" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Snowman Quilt Snowman Quilt[/caption]

I'm changing my tracking just a little bit.

This year my quilting buddy and I are using up flannel.  You see a few years ago we both went a little tiny bit overboard at that day after Thanksgiving flannel sale and maybe the next year too.  We are making giving (donation) quilts with it this year. We want to have several ready for when the need arises.

I normally count out my fabric when the top is made, back is made and then the binding when it is sewn on.  For the flannel I'm going to count it out when it's cut, because we are cutting and kitting up four to six quilts at a time.  We spent one evening this past week pulling fabric but only got one kit cut so that is what I'll count this week.  All this to say I'm adding a line to my stash report this year to reflect our flannel leaving the stash.  We want to use what we have but we might have to buy just a bit to balance out a quilt.

The reason I'm including it in my stash report is that it is stored at my house and ok I had six (or maybe more) bins to her two bins when she brought it over last year. It's all mixed together now and it will be leaving my house.  But that's the whole point here,  is to use it up right?
