Design Wall Monday Aug 27, 2012

My poor design wall hasn't changed it several weeks, because I'm working off my table and ironing board. I've been pulling out UFO's to finish up meanwhile the churn dash on the wall is becoming a UFO.  Go Figure?

So still on the wall is the coffee churn dash.

I finished the top of my Christmas Flannel.  I added the boarders, thanks for the comments.  I still have to figure out what I want to do with the back but I should get to that later this week.

My sewing will be evenings only this week and the weather is suppose to be hot and humid again so I might be sewing by the midnight oil.

Stash Report Week 34, 2012

I really haven't got a whole lot of sewing done this week.  I think Wednesday evening was it.

This week was jam packed with appointments and house projects.  We put together the new shelving for Bill's new storage/work room.

I know that there are only four shelf units but it took us all morning on Thursday.

I think we chose the hottest most humid day of the week but we got it done.

We've started the BIG clean out of the house.  It's a big job and there are lots of decisions to be made.  I thought that maybe the kitchen would be next on the remodel list but it does make more sense to do the main living area and master bedroom next. I think. What ever we decide to do next the clean out needs to happen and it feels good to moving forward.

Back to the fabric.  The good news is no fabric sneaked in to my sewing room while I was busy downstairs

Stash Report Week 33, 2012

I'm thrilled with all that I've finished up this week.

Counting Bears is ready for quilting.  Made and attached the binding on Sweet Treat.  Made the binding for the QOV that I'm quilting tomorrow. Finished up the Christmas Flannel (I think)  I stopped with the first boarder because of the backing fabric I have, now I think it looks unfinished.   I think if I add the border I can cut the back and add some color to it.  I'm adding a photo of the front and back let me know what you think.  But I'm counting out the fabric used so far.

Here is the border fabric

Love the back maybe add solid on sides or down the middle?

A trip to Joann's cost me 5 1/2 yards.  Nine steps forward and five steps back.  LOL

A UFO and A NewFO

Yesterday after I finished attaching the binding on my Sweet Treat I pulled a UFO.  While I did sort of make a list at the first of the year I've not been working on that list very hard. Like I even know where that list is!!  Anyway when I was looking for something else I found my flannel Christmas quilt.

I started this quilt when I was a real beginner, wow! that felt good to think that I've advanced from real beginner.  You don't think about your progress on a day to day basis and then you pick up something you started a few years back and think  "I have improved at this". Oops sorry back to the quilt...I pulled it out and decided that it wouldn't take much to finish it up and bonus I'll have a Christmas quilt done too!

Then I found these Christmas fabric strips that I'd sewn into sets. Yes I know what they were for and No I'm not going to use them for that so I cut them up for a table runner.  I got this ideal from a blog that I read and as soon as I find it I post a link.

That's it for this morning.  I'm off to visit the Mom's today.

Happy Friday

Progress Feels Good

Wednesday was a good day for making progress.  Starting with a trip to the Apple store to pick up a wireless keyboard for Mr. Bill and lunch at our favorite El Indio.  I found a computer class I want to take but it doesn't start until mid-October.  In the afternoon I started some chili in the crock pot.  Mr. Bill had a meeting so that meant sewing time for me.

Then it was time to move on to the sewing room.  The weather was a little cooler today and with three fans going I was able to get some sewing done.  I finished the Counting Bears top.  I got the back done (ironed) and the batting cut and it's all ready to go with me on Monday to be quilted.  I so excited to do some of my own quilting.

I also got the binding machined sewn on the disappearing nine patch, I'll start doing the hand sewing this morning while I wait for Mr. Bill at the dentist.  I trimmed up my Sweet Treat quilt just back from the quilt and got the binding made.  I would have sewn it on the quilt but I was distracted by this beautiful sunset.

Then I came down stairs to have some dinner at 8pm.  A little bit of chili and left over chips from El Indio was yummy good.  I know I should eat earlier but that just cuts in to my sewing time.

Yesterday I also realized that the comments had been turned off.  In July the spammers had found my blog.  I know, my little ole blog.  I have less than 100 post. I'm leaning as I go.  I don't even know how to count visitors or add buttons and the spammers found me?  Well comments are back on I hope.  Now if I could figure out what wordpress password I need to comment on blogger blogs I'd be a happy camper. :)

I do like days when I feel productive.

WIP Almost a finish

My poor churn dash quilt has been moved to the back burner--again.  I need to finish the counting bear quilt top so I can take it on Monday to do the quilting.  As usual all it needed was the borders.  I didn't know what I wanted to do in the corners but it had to be with the fabric I had left.

I tried four patches and pinwheels but I liked the orange block best. This is how far I got last evening until it was just to hot to stay in the sewing room.  I'll finish it up tonight it's suppose to be a little cooler.

I'm linking up with WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced

So far behind I'm being lapped

So just how far behind am I? If this was Formula 1 I'd be back with the HRT's being lapped by Red Bull and Ferrari.

Here is the project list I just completed and took off the wall in my sewing room.....notice the date.

Really I don't need to be a front runner up there with Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.  Some where in the middle of the pack maybe up with Mercedes running between Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg.  I know if I practiced my craft and put in the hours I will move up through the standings.  Sorry no 4am workouts at the gym for this racer.  LOL

Really it's not all that bad.  I've had some starts and finishes that are not on this list, so what I should do is just stop dating my list.

Now I'm going to go sew.

Design Wall Monday Aug 13, 2012

My design wall hasn't changed at all this week.  So much for learning those setting triangles. :)

So while the wall is the same the cutting table is full of t-shirts.  Another t-shirt quilt is in the works.  I never would have guessed that I would like making t-shirt quilts but I love the puzzle of it.

It's late here but I'm linking up to Patchwork Times anyway.  I've got to get this on to a morning routine.

Stash Report Week 32, 2012

I used fabric this week!!  I'm so thrilled to have finish a quilt top and I have the back ready too.

A few weeks ago I took a long arm quilting class so that I would be able to rent the shop machine.  While I was there the Halloween fabric was calling to me.  I broke down and bought these two panels.  This fabric has been aging in my car since I bought it.  I didn't want to get distracted yet again from my list.

So here are my numbers.

  • Fabric Added this week:  1.5 yds

  • Fabric Added this year:  161.25 yds

  • Fabric Used this week:  9.25 yds

  • Fabric Used this year:  111.50 yds

  • Net Fabric Used this Year  -49.75

At least I used more than I added this week

Design wall Monday August 6,2012

Up on my design wall today and for the last two weeks are the blocks for my coffee churn dash.  I've been chipping away at finishing up a few OK several quilts that I have started.  This one is next on the list as soon as I finish the borders and backing for my QOV.

There are three more blocks to finish piecing and then I get to make setting triangles.  Something I've never done before but will learn how before this week is done.

There will be no sewing today and tomorrow is iffy, so I'm planning on  Thursday and Friday's  Quiltathon, after I finish my morning chores. (Do people still do chores?)

Just want to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Mr. Bill

Stash Report Week 31, 2012

Oh no another week closer to Christmas and still nothing done.  I sort of know some of what I want to make, does this explain the added yardage? You bet it does.  Really the connecting threads catalog arrived (some time  ago) and I went to the web site to place my order and 28 yards later, yes that number is right I added 28 yards of fabric to my house this week.

Just look at those beautiful fat quarters, I also bought a stack of this line too.

Added two stacks of this great nautical fabric for QOV. Fabric is in the mail to my sister who is going to make the top.  Thanks Kathy!!

Let us not forget the reason for the order...CHRISTMAS!!  I'm liking this Christmas candy fabric and I can't wait to use that candy cane fabric for binding.

These are not my usual Christmas colors.  They are so fun and bright I started seeing visions in my head so click I did and now I can't wait to cut in to them.  First I have to finish the borders on the quilt that is laying on the cutting table.  I think it's a real toss up which fabric gets to me faster Christmas or Halloween.  I think it's a win-win cause I love them both. :)

I finished up the t-shirt quilt so the numbers aren't all bad.

  • Added this week:  28 yds

  • Added this year:  159.75 yds

  • Used this week:  7 yds

  • Used this year: 102.25

  • Net used 2012 -57.50

I'm trying really hard to show up for at least two days of Judy's Quiltathon this week so I can finish up some stuff and cut in to this fabric.  I drooled over the pattern she posted but I know myself and if I started it I would just be more behind.  LOL
