WIP Wednesday June 27, 2012

I'm making progress this week on my Take 5 QOV. Getting to those boarders.  Maybe I'll have the top done this week!!

As I was doing other stuff this week and my mind was wandering it dawned on me that Christmas is now less than six months away.  Holy Snowflake Batman! I don't even have a list made and nothing started.  I pulled out some Christmas fabric, but I didn't want to pull out the Christmas bins because I want to finish up what I'm doing.

Maybe if I make my list  and figure out what I want to make and for who, then pull out the big stash.  To add to this when I picked up the mail right there on top was the new Connecting Threads catalog with Christmas right on the cover.  Now I was really trying not to buy fabric in June.  So far zero fabric purchase...I've four days left in June...do you think it counts if I put fabric in my cart but don't push the checkout button.  LOL

Design Wall Monday - June 25, 2012

I have a finish! It's been a while since I've really could say done.  I finished it yesterday so it was too late for the stash report and I haven't put anything new up on the wall.  I have a top that is boarders close to being done so that is coming out as soon as I finished the backing for this.

It's my Sweet Treat quilt along from May, that's right, the one I wasn't going to do.  I'm so glad that I did, even Mr. Bill really liked it and wanted to know "how come I don't have any quilts like that?" Do you think it was a hint?

Thursday June List Update

Well I've put this post off today just in case I got something finished and could cross it off my list, but no such luck today.

I've been working away on the lists and I'm making progress so next Thursday expect big results.

While clean out the house and sorting through boxes I opened a chest from my Dad and found my Grandma's crazy quilt.  I knew it was in the chest, but getting the key and the chest together took awhile to happen.

Soon I'll write about how this quilt came about.

Next Thursday I'll have my final update on my Finish it up June lists.

Cleaning House Really

It's well known around here that housework and cleaning is not my most favorite thing to do.  I mean really once you do clean you just have to do it again and again.  It's like laundry, never ending.

I'll do yard work, cut trees, prune bushes, rake, cut up fire wood, most anything outside before I'll want to do housework.

Part of the reason is the dust around here.  We have a dirt driveway and currently we are making a new circle drive.  To even out the new driveway area we had to have some tree stumps removed.  So we call out the stump grinder guy and he shows up with his equipment the other day, just as I was leaving to run an errand.  I was gone all of forty minutes and when I got back they were done and the machines were already back on the trailer.

I know you must be asking what does stump grinding have to do with cleaning house?  While I was gone Mr. Bill took the following pictures.  He was standing on the corner of the front porch.

Ok not so bad, all that red is chips of eucalyptus, two years ago there were three big trees there.

I hope Mr. Bill remembered to close the doors.

Yes that  cloud of dust is heading right for the house.

So now you know what I'll be doing today and why.

Have a fabulous Wednesday,

Design Wall Monday - June 18, 2012

On my design wall/floor today is my little Sweet Treat II.

It started out being my Sweet Treat sew along, I knew when I started that I would not have enough for the size quilt that Judy was making but I soon realized that I didn't even have enough for a baby quilt.  So back to the fabric stash I went, but that's another quilt.

I got a bonus evening in the sewing room this past week and want to do something that showed progress so I pulled out this quilt.  Then as I was ironing and laying out the blocks they just seemed wonky, I thought ok I'll trim them down a little.  They were looking just fine and I only had maybe three to go and I thought "I wonder how they'll look wonky".  I know sometimes I can drive myself crazy.  I've always wanted to make a twisted square so what the heck, I cut one and I liked it.  Went back and cut all of them added some kona snow and I really like my little table topper.

I want to quilt this one on my machine, but I'll have to set it aside for a couple of weeks.  I've put it on my July list.  I know June is only half over and I already have a July list.  Truth be told I started it the first week of June when I found a pattern I want to make but knew that June was full up. :0)

Thursday 2nd June List WIP

Time for my second up date on my Finish It Up June List.

I got some things checked off the lists this week.

On the Yard List:   I dug out the Yucca plants and cut down the Lantana bush.  If you have lantana you know that it grows like a weed.  Super fast and can get out of control real fast.  That's what this one had done, it was over the roof of the kitchen and just making a mess and every time you walk by it made a mess on you.  It was time to do some cutting.  Big check mark!

On the Furniture List:  I reupholstered this steel bench.  These are the only chickens at this house.

On the Quilt List:  I happy to be making progress on this list because this is the list that started the whole Finish it Up thing.  I finished the T-Shirt quilt top.  I had planned on just plain back but because of the size I find I don't have enough of any one fabric, so I'm going to play around and see what I come up with.  I have extra flame fabric so I'm thinking to use it up.

I thought I would have more things checked off the all the lists by now. You'd think I'd know better, it all takes longer than I'd planned.  Still I'm happy over all with my progress, it's on the 14th I still have the whole second half of the month.  :)

Stash Report Week 24, 2012

I am so thrill to tell you that nothing has changed on my stash report.  What? you say, she's happy zero fabric used?  Nooo, I'm thrilled that no more fabric came in to the car, house or sewing room this week.

  • Added this week:  0 yds

  • Added this year: 114.25

  • Used this week:  0 yds

  • Used this year:  65.75

  • Net used 2012;  -48.50

I'm real close to having a top done, so hopefully my numbers will change next week.  But on the other hand there is a big quilt run starting this week here in Southern California.  I so glad that I'm scheduled to work both weekends.

I found a pattern to use two of the mini rolls I got last week from my friend Kat.  The only thing is that this is Finish it up June  not Start Something new June.

So I very sadly walked over to the drawer with the plastic bags and put the magazine in a bag.  Pick up the mini rolls and told them they won't be in there for long, cause even thought they had to stay in the bag I was keeping it right by the sewing machine and I made a date with them for July 1st.

Thursday-June List-WIP

So how is Finish It Up June coming along?  I so glad you asked.  I have a big item crossed off a list, just not the quilting list.  I mentioned that I had other list, House, Yards, Furniture and Everything Else.  A big cross off on the House list is the Shipping/Office. I didn't remember to get a before photo, but let's just say you would have been surprise to know that the carpet in that room is blue.    It had become a real catch all room.   This is a temporary room while we are working on the rest of the house.  It is really the formal dining room in the house,  but now it is functional and CROSSED off my list!!!

I'm thrilled to be crossing things off my Lists.  I've stopped adding things to the list, well at least nothing major.  Today I'll be finishing up a few furniture pieces...more to cross off !!!!

I'm looking forward to making a good dent on my quilting list this Sunday.

Happy Thursday

Design Wall Monday June 4, 2012

Up on my design wall is my T-Shirt Quilt.

I had planned to get more sewing in this weekend but Sunday was one of those "Best laid plans" days.  With internet issues and grocery shopping etc the day just flew by.  I did get two more blocks sewn on my Churn Dash.  I'm looking forward to this evening when I can get back to work on this quilt (fingers crossed)

Check out the design walls at Judy's to see what everyone is up t0.

Stash Report - Week 23, 2012

Another stash report with incoming fabric and none going out.  But I have a plan...this is Finish it Up June and so far I'm right on track.

My quilting buddy Kat found a great price on small rolls of 2.5 strips and she knows my Quilt of Valor goals so she called me and I said yes to 4 rolls.  When she brought it over she also gifted me 15 fat quarters, oh my!

Then my sister was in town and we were shopping for upholstery fabric, but you have to walk past everything else to get there and I bought some 4th of July fabric for pillowcases

So I ended up with 15.5 yards of fabric this week.  Good thing I don't track upholstery fabric , cause that's an in/out  thing now or that number would be even higher

  • Added this week: 15.5 yds

  • Added this year: 114.25 yds

  • Used this week: 0 yds

  • Used this year:  65.75 yds

  • Net used 2012:  -48.5 yds

June Finish it up Quilt List

Whoa!  It's June already fast approaching the middle of the year.  I've named June my  FINISH IT UP MONTH.  For the last two weeks of May I've been making lists.  Every time I came across a project, ideal or goal that had not yet been finished it when in to the notebook.  I have narrowed down my all my lists to :  House, Yards, Furniture, Quilts, and Everything else.

I have over ten quilts on the quilt list.  Now I know that I'm not going to get all that done so for June I shorten the list to six and that will still be pushing it with all the other list I'm working on.  But pushing the Finish It Up List  is what June is all about.  Some of these were on the May list, maybe this will be their month.

  1. Churn Dash

  2. T-shirt quilt

  3. QOV - Take Five

  4. Square n Square

  5. Sweet Treat I

  6. Sweet Treat II

1. Churn Dash-My interest has renewed for this quilt I have some blocks that need trimmed, some ready to sew, some done.

2. T-Shirt Quilt- I finely decided on the shirts and have the sashing cut.

3. QOV Take Five- Boarders chosen.

4. Square n Square- Started life as this pattern but has changed direction--we'll see.

5. Sweet Treat I- Needs those boarders

6. Sweet Treat II - Blocks are done

So that's the quilt list for June. No new quilt tops in June. :)
