LYOF February UFO Finished

February's UFO is finished.  It was a close finish right down to the wire.  With other commitments and some travel I wanted to chose wisely and it was still close.  Here is my February  Goal Post

I started with charm squares sewn together, also in the bag were some extra 5 in squares and two rows of charms already sewn together. Looks like I took them off the quilt for some reason.  The two rows were reattached and borders made.

Ready for the quilting part I went in search of backing and batting.  Score found both in the stash!

Wednesday evening was my time to get this sweet thing done.  With some wavy line quilting, which is about the current extent of my abilities this little baby quilt came together.

It doesn't have a destination yet but it is ready to go when needed and it's a big  check mark on my UFO list

Stash Report Week 8, 2014

Sorry I missed last week, did you miss me? While I was away there was fabric acquisition, are you surprised? I thought not.  I know what you are thinking, how can she tag along at a HAM Radio Convention and end up with fabric?  I'm telling you it's a talent. Remember when I went to the model railroad show ?

Anyway some of the HAM's spouses (and there are lady HAM's too) brought in guest speakers on different subjects just for us tagger-a-longers. (I just made that up).  One seminar was on quilting and using the strip tube ruler which of course I just happen to own (and have used) but I'm always for picking up new pointers, and I did.

The speaker was from Grandma Jo's quilt shop which happen to be just down the street.  We stopped in on our way out of town. I wanted to show Mr. Bill their zing binding. I'm putting it on the baby quilt I'm finishing up so you can see it on Friday. This is the long way to say I bought 2 yards of fabric.

  •  Added this Week:  2.00 yards

  •  Added this Year:    54.75  yards

  •  Used this Week :  0.75 yards

  •  Used this Year:     46.75  yards

  • Net Used this Year -8.00 yards

That puts me a little deeper in the red, buying more that I've used. Not to worry I've three quilts that I'm working on binding and then I can count out some fabric.

PS: Grandma Jo's Quilt Shop in Yuma Az.  Had a great selection of fabrics and the ladies were very friendly. I could not find a web site and one is not listed on their business card. If you are going through Yuma AZ , just google Grandma Jo's and stop in for a shopping break.

Stash Report Week 6, 2014

I received some good news this week.  I'm getting another great nephew and being the Great Aunt that I am I went shopping because, and I'm sure you understand this, I didn't have a thing to make my new Nephew a quilt with.  So really I needed some really cute boy fabric in the colors that Mom has picked out. Right?

Now we all know what happens when you go to the fabric store that's having a sale after several months weeks of not purchasing fabric, but still sewing your little heart out. Right you need to restock some basics, think five yards of Kona white.  Then as you wander the stacks while very patiently waiting for your turn at the cutting table, quilts start dancing in your head and next thing you know you walk out with a whole new project list..  Just kidding, only one additional quilt and some flannel I needed for our giving quilts.

Lucky for my numbers that I finished up the t-shirt quilt and backing and is at the quilters, made some binding and gave some fabric to a friend for a quilt.

  •  Added this Year:    52.75  yards

  •  Used this Week :  9 yards

  •  Used this Year:     46.00 yards

I'm in red, but I have a few projects that are in the finishing stages and I'll be counting out fabric very soon.

Here's my work list for the week:

LYOF February Goal

Time to go through my UFO bin and pick my February Goal.

There are so many things to consider when choosing the very special UFO that will be worked on this month.  With other commitments looming this month I wanted something doable because after all this is about finishing.

I've chosen this little flannel baby quilt.

[caption id="attachment_2506" align="aligncenter" width="300"]February Goal February Goal[/caption]

I don't remember when I started it, by looking at the fabric I'm guessing at least three years it's been in a plastic bag waiting to be finished. Well you darling little quilt this is your lucky month.

My February finish will mean the top is finished, it is quilted and bound.  A total finish !!!

I'm linking up with A Lovely Year Of Finishes.  Thank You Shanna and Melissa for inspiring us to Finish something this month.

January 2014 UFO's and NewFO's

This year I've committed myself to finishing up UFO's, but I also have ideals swirling around in my head all the time so we all know that there will be NewFO's too.

Starting with the UFO's :  The Flannel Woods Quilt:

[caption id="attachment_2489" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Flannel Woods Flannel Woods[/caption]

My goal was to get the top finished and I did. It's at the quilters and I've the binding made and ready to go when it comes back. Maybe this week, so I'll have the finish photo next month.

The second UFO I chose for January was my 12 Days of Christmas wall hanging.

[caption id="attachment_2495" align="aligncenter" width="191"]Twelve Days Of Christmas Twelve Days Of Christmas[/caption]

I bought this panel several years ago while visiting in Oklahoma, like maybe 2009.  I took it when I was renting time on a long and quilted it Nov 2012. So it sat all last year just waiting for binding and a hanging sleeve.  I finished this up just this past week.

So I'm feeling really good about checking one and a half off my list this month and I'm really excited about starting my January NewFO.

I've wanted to do an orange and white quilt for some time and have been buy orange fat quarters when I find one I like. I've also knew that I wanted to use half square triangles. I started cutting my hst's with my accucutter. I decided to make one block  just to see, you know how it is when you are starting a new ideal, how you just want to see one block.

NewFo Jan 1

While at the ironing board I flipped one half of the block around and WOW

[caption id="attachment_2497" align="aligncenter" width="300"]WOW Love it WOW Love it[/caption]

So I made some more blocks and laid them out.

[caption id="attachment_2498" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Orange Cream Orange Cream[/caption]

I'm still working on this quilt and will be working on this this month too.  I'm so loving this quilt.  I've a busy month with quilt orders due but I'll still be able to make progress on this sweet orange quilt.

I'm liking up with Barbara at Cat Patches for January NewFO Party
