Design Wall Monday & April New FO

I have three projects on my wall and one on my table, and none are close to a finish.

The one on the left is really a UFO, I got it out this month to finish..HA  The center is sewn together and the boarder is ready so maybe there will be progress on it in May.  The little table topper on the right is me trying to work out of my color comfort zone.  I am so loving the churn dash in the middle, or I was before we went on a short trip.  Does that happen to you, you're gone a few days and your focus changes?

When we came back home I pulled out fabric that I had set aside for a QOV and I cut it out and started sewing on it.  I'm not calling it a UF because that is my focus..today.  So this month I've worked on one UFO and started two more.  At this rate I'll have a nice pile  for January.

I'm linking up with  Patchwork Times for Design Wall Monday and Cat Patches for April NewFO

Stash Report Week 18

I was doing so well until Thursday night quilt club.  If was fun and games night and we were to bring in three ugly fat quarters.  Oh goodie I thought I'll have something to report leaving my stash, but then I won one yard of this bright retro look fabric.

So there you are three quarters forward and one back.

2 inch strips?

I've spent several chunks of time this week working on my scrapbook room.  This is the room where everything got "put" when we were redoing the other rooms on that level.  Now it's time to put it back to rights.  First all the stuff that didn't go back in the other bedrooms need a new home and sometimes it's not this one anymore.  Then to take a good look at all the other stuff that piles up in a craft room, you know what I'm talking about.  I have a box with my sister's name on it, she's coming to visit this summer and it will be like Christmas for her.  Right now the room is at the stage of "Is it better or worse"  you know the chaos before the calm.  So that's progress, right?

So while this was going on and I was cleaning shelves it dawned on me how this shelf looks like 2 inch strips.  I made this shelf at least five years before I started quilting again.  Maybe quilting is where I was heading all along.

Weekend Trip

This past weekend we went for a short trip (about a 6 hour drive) to Visalia and Tulare in  Central California.  Two events just happen to be on the same weekend so off we went.  The California Antique Farm Equipment Show and the International DX convention (Ham  Radio).  Throw in some antique stores, beautiful farm land and orange trees in bloom.  All in all it made for a great weekend.

Just look at all those shades of green.

This antique tractor was for sale ..NO it did not come home with us.

The tractor pull was amazing.  The hopped up antique tractors were the best.

Then we found the most wonderful homemade orange ice cream.  I think we will be taking a detour to the Orange Works Cafe on all north bound trips.  LOL

It was good to get away for a few days and to come back recharged.

Design Wall Monday April 23, 2012

Not much sewing happen last week.  We've been out of town since last Thursday returning yesterday evening.  We had a great time in Central California.  All the orange trees were in bloom and we had the best home made orange ice cream ever !!  But back to the design wall.

I started this table topper a couple of years ago.  Some how it got buried (don't ask me how) but it's out again and I'm working on a finish.  All it needs is the border.  I do plan on some time in the sewing room this week but we all know about best laid plans.

Stash Report - Week 16, 2012

I missed last weeks report because I had nothing to report, not in or out.  This week I made the backing and binding for this quilt.

It's still sitting by the front door waiting for me to take it to the quilter. I'm counting the fabric out now cause it's not in the sewing room well, except for the binding but it's in a drawer and ready to be applied.

So here's my numbers, I need to get some more stuff finished up.  I've three projects going right now but it's a short week for me so I don't think my numbers will change any time soon.  LOL

Spring Break 2012, Thursday

Well it's Thursday of my Spring Break and I don't have much to report today.  I really didn't get much done  around the house.  I did get some errands done and we met a friend for lunch.

Then I had a meeting this evening at the antique store.  Now it's time for Doc Martin on PBS and look forward to getting stuff done tomorrow.

Spring Break 2012, Wednesday

Here it is Wednesday already.  My spring break is half over.  After watching paint dry yesterday it was good to get back out in the yard today.

Here are my weapons tools of choice today.

I didn't get to use the weed-wacker today.  I cut up brush and then cut up the branches.  Yes that's my very own chainsaw.  I know it's electric and that's just great with me.  It does what I need and Bill worries a little less about me using it.

My goal was to get as much done before the trash man showed up today.  I think I'm over my limit of trash cans but that just gives me a head start on next week, right?

By lunch time I'd had enough fun.  We went to lunch at our favorite sandwich shop, The Lunch Box.  Then stopped at Home Depot and Dixieline on the way home.  I picked up paint for some chairs and Bill got sprinkler heads that he needs to replace.

This evening we went to the movies.  Did you know that not that many people got to the movies a 5:00 on a weekday.  There was seven people in the theater.  We saw Salmon Fishing in the Yemen.  Good movie.   Now it feels like I've done something spring breakish , that's a word right?

Tomorrow I'm back indoors

Spring Break 2012, Tuesday

Today was an indoor day.  We started by going to the gym, I guess I can't take spring break from everything.  When I got home I stained the base for a set of lawyer's bookcase.  I  sanded it a few weeks ago and as usual it takes me this long to get back to it.

While the bookcase base was drying I started painting the 2nd half of the accent wall in my scrapbook room.  I know I'm so lucky to have a sewing room and scrapbook room.  This room has been used to shuffle everything through while we've been redoing the upstairs bedrooms.  It's been almost a year since I packed it all up and pushed it to one side.  Now it's time to put it back together.

With the first coat drying, I was putting things away on the other side of the room in one of the white bookcases from yesterday.

By late afternoon I could put the bookcases up.  The yellow wall doesn't really show well in this photo because it was getting late and I wanted to get the photo before all the light was gone.

Now that I've got the desk and bookcases back up I guess I could have just painted around the edges.  LOL

And don't worry about that heater register  above the bookcase that vent hasn't been open in ten years. We haven't turned on the heater in two years, this is Southern California after all.

The plan for tomorrow is to be back outside again.

Spring Break 2012, Monday

Yes it's true, I'm on Spring Break.  OK, I know that I only take one upholstery class and only once a week, but the calendar says Spring Break so I'm living it up on my Spring Break.  Want to see what I was up to today?

A few weeks ago we had a good rain storm with some wind and a pepper tree fell over, so Bill did the big stuff and a bonus tree.  I followed up doing the brush (not finished)

While I was working Mr. Roadrunner came cruising  by ...

At lunch time I called it done for the day.

We had lunch and then I went to the grocery store.

Then I did some finish touch up on the bookcases I've been painting.

I'll just bet you can't wait to see what Tuesday brings.
I did get some sewing in this evening.  I'm really focused on finishing up some projects.

Till tomorrow

Stash Report - Week 14, 2012

There was not much happening in the sewing room this week. I finished up the last three Easter pillowcases I had cut.  Then there was that stop at two quilt shops and some how 4 yards found their way in to my car.  They have already be put with the project that they belong with.  Now that I'm done with the dreaded Taxes, I can get back in the sewing room.

I also bought some new tools a few weeks ago.  The fact that both Bill and I got tools on the same day was just a coincidence really.  Plus the fact that we both spent about the same amount is funny too.  His nail gun was totally worn out and falling apart.  I really really use the new feet for my machine all the time and I really like sewing on my machine now.
