Get it Done, January 2013

I'm joining with Judy at Patchwork times  to Get it Done.  Here is my January Get it Done List.

After much thought and process of elimination, cause I can't finish everything in one month.  I came up with four things to get done in January.

1.  New Year Day Quilt of Valor:   I want to have the top completed including boarders.  The back and binding made and ready for quilting.  The strips are ready to go for New Year Day.

Get Done Jan2

2.  Christmas Quilt Along:  I almost have all the pieces cut.  I want to have the blocks made and sewn together.

Get Done Jan3

3.  Cowboy Tumbler:  Finish Cutting out the tumblers and complete the top.  I'd like to get this one quilted this month.

Get Done Jan1

4.  Red & White:  Make two more sets of blocks.

Get Done Jan4

That completes the January List.

Stash Report Week 52, 2012

This is the last stash report of the very first year I've done a stash report.  Will I do it again next year? Oh Yes.  I've learn alot about how I use fabric this past year and how to keep track.  Little pieces of paper with numbers on them does not work. :)

There is no change this week.  I've been cutting and cutting this week to get ready for the New Year.   I managed to avoid the online sales until yesterday and today I'm stopping at the LQS just for a few fat quarters, honest, well maybe I look at the sale table too.

I ended up 6.5 yards in the red this year and I'm OK with that.  I also managed to use  252 yards so that means I made quilts and pillowcases.

Stash Report Week 51, 2012

Week 51? so soon!

I'm still moving things around in the sewing room.  I didn't get as much time in there this week as I'd hoped.  I'll finish up this coming week and be all set to sew on New Year Day.

The fabric leaving the stash this past week was gifted, there could be more of that this week as organizing the fabric it the project of the week.

2013 New FO Challenge

Today while I was working on my rearranging of the sewing room I was thinking and thinking about New FO's.  Barbara at Cat Patches is listing her planned New FO's.  Here's what I've come up with for my NewFO's that  I want to start next year.  They are in not in any order.

1.  Granny Squares.

New FO 13 List1

I bought this fabric in September to make the granny squares that I've seen on several blogs.

2.  1-2-3 Quilt

New FO 13 List2

This is the bonus fabric from a baby quilt I just finished and want to make another one.

3.  Sunflowers

New FO 13 List5

I have this bag of sunflowers that I want to put into a quilt.

4.  Scrappy Christmas Quit-a-Long

New FO 13 List4

Over at Sunshower Quilts, Katrina is doing this Christmas Quilt-a-long.  Of course I found it weeks after she started and I'm just now pulling my fabric.  So this one could maybe be January's New FO.

5.  Christmas Fairies

New FO 13 List3

This is one still had the receipt in the bag and my note about the quilt.  It has been setting under my table since November 2010. Yikes!

So that's my list. I've gathered them all together and put them in a bin marked  " Barbara" because she's the instigator.

Friday Finishes something to Whoop About

I am so whooping it up today.  I don't mean to brag but I am finished with all my Christmas sewing.  Of course my list wasn't very long and everything had to be mailed and one will be given tomorrow.  Nothing like having to face the mobs lines at the post office to help you make your deadlines.  :)

counting bears finish

I finished up the little bear quilt.  I found the matching fabric for the binding, it had wander around the sewing room and bury it's self under a stack of fabric.  I  found it quite by chance I really thought I'd would be shopping for binding.

Now the part that I'm really exited about is that I have two weeks to work on the sewing room.  I did a major rearrange last September so I've been using this lay-out for over a year now.  Some things work and some things just bug me to no end.  I'd like to get those bugs worked out and of course the big one---Fabric Management-- OK you can stop laughing now.

I know I can't be the only one that can't decide on how to organize my fabric.  When I first started quilting I used lots of novelty prints.  I still use novelty prints but I'm adding alot that I can now sort by color.  My basket of scraps is over flowing and that needs to be sorted too. So anyway that will be the biggest part of this clean up.  I'll be ready to start the New Year in a clean organized sewing room.  Now that is something to Whoop about.

I'm liking up with Confessions of a Fabric Addict today.  Check out what everyone is doing.

WIP-- Will it be a UFO Again?

I started this Christmas quilt last December and called it a Christmas Quickie, Ha Ha!  because I wanted to make a quick little quilt for Christmas.  You can see how far I got.

I pulled it out last week  to look at finish up this Christmas.  Well I have the borders sewn but I've had Christmas gift projects on my table so just as soon as I get that cleared off I can attach the borders and it just might get quilted by next Christmas.  Sometimes you just can't rush a Christmas quilt.

What are you working on?  I'm linking with Freshly Pieced today to see what everyone is working on.

Have a happy Wednesday

Music to do errands by

I've done my time at the gym this morning and now it's time to do errands. I've lots of stops today so I loaded the CD player with Christmas Music. Here's my playlist.

If I finish these I have a bag of back-ups. :)

Have a happy Monday.

Stash Report Week 49, 2012

I can explain!  I'm back on the minus side.  But see there was this Sale at Connecting Threads and those beautiful fat quarter bundles just kept asking to come and visit at my house.  So here they are all safe and sound, ready to be cut up and put into a quilt.

Yes, I have a plan for most of this fabric and I even wrote it down so I don't forget.  :)

I've made a few Christmas gifts so I do have a little fabric going out.

Here are my numbers.  With only three more reports this year it is doubtful that I'll see the plus side again.  And I'm OK with that.  Unless of course I finish up some projects between now and then.

  • Added this week: 24

  • Added this year:  258.50

  • Used this week: 5.25

  • Used this year:  243.25

Stash Report Week 48, 2012

I did it !! I made it on to the plus side before the end of the year.  I won't be staying here very long because I shopped at Connecting Threads Black Friday Sale and that should be here tomorrow.  Yikes!  Good thing we get to reset at zero in a few weeks. :)

I have been finishing up things.  A pillowcase here, a binding there and it's all added up.

  • Added this week: 0

  • Added this year:  234.5

  • Used this week: 10.0

  • Used this year:  238.0

  • Net 2012  3.5 yards

The stash report has been good for me.  It has made me think about what I buy and I've shopped my stash (at least 3 yds).  It has also made me aware of the color gaps in my stash.  Oops that sounds like more shopping.

Just cause I can't seem to post without a photo here is the last t-shirt quilt I did.  It's been delivered so I can show it now.

For more stash reports go to Patchwork times.

Have a great week

Stash Report - Week 46, 2012

Not a whole lot of sewing this week.  I did manage to get a couple of days with 20 minutes or so of sewing.

Just when I thought I might break even this week  I picked  up some fabric at a craft swap.  Three yards of Christmas fabric and the Formula 1 flannel fabric.  We are big Formula 1 fans at our house.  Last year I made Mr. Bill a F1 quilt, now next year I'll have a flannel blanket for my lap while we watch the races.

At the same swap there were two pieces of great upholstery fabric.  I don't count upholstery fabric but I was thrilled to get these two great prints.

So here are my numbers.  It's getting very close to the end of the year and I'm getting closer to breaking even. :)

  •  Added this week:  7 yds

  • Added this year:  234.50 yds

  • Used this week:  7.75 yds

  • Used this year:  228 yds

  • Net 2012 -6.50

November Quiltathon Part 2

WooHoo!  I got the linen closet done and moved on to the sewing room.

I'm very lucky to have a large walk-in linen closet.  Last fall we put new carpet in the hallway and the closet.  I really cleaned out the closet and organized all the shelves. This  week I wanted to make room to store the  model trains while we are working on the main floor of the house and redoing the master bedroom.

Here is the master bedroom today.   But that's another story. :)

The extra cars, track and engines needed to be put some place safe, out of the way of the work we are getting ready to do.

In the linen closet are the train cars, extra track, the HO sets, and the extras that go along with running a railroad. I also store my batting and one sewing machine rolling case there.

In the guest bedroom closet  the engines and the big cars are hanging out with my upholstery fabric.

I did get to the sewing room too.  First a took a seven seam sewing break.  I had this mug rug laid out and didn't want to forget the order so I just sewed it up real quick.

Then I tackled my cutting table and that back corner.

I put away the fabric that was on the chair and the table.  Sorted through the piles behind the chair too.

What's left on the table is two wall hangings and a quilt that need to be trimmed and binding done, pillowcase parts that have been cut and need sewn and my soap quilt.  I got the chair and corner done but the sewing table still needs sorted out.

This will be it for my November Quiltathon. Today we're going for a drive and Sunday I work.

Happy Weekend.

November Quiltathon, Maybe

Really I was going to do this months quiltathon over at Judy's Patchwork times. I was all ready to do some sewing just for me.   Reality crept up on me and so far I've had a 20 minute-athon. (I just made that up).  Today was the day I'd planned to close the door and sew....but....I started cleaning out the hall linen closet earlier this week and I need to finish that first.  Not just because everything that got pulled out of the closet is in the hall sort of blocking the door to my sewing room.

Then there is the sewing room, four weeks of power sewing for a craft faire says it all.  So my quiltathon time should be spent trying to find the top of my cutting table, my chair, and floor.   Or I could just clear a path between the sewing machine and ironing board?

What do you think clean or sew, I know tough choice. :)

I let you know how it goes.  LOL

Stash Report - Week 44, 2012

Eight more Sundays in this year.  It's at this time of year that I really get conflicted, I feel sad that the year is ending but I get excited about all the possibilities for the new year.

I'm almost, kinda of sort of  sure I'll break even on my stash report before the end of the year.  I would have been ahead today except for yesterday. :)

I really have been busy sewing just not busy taking pictures.  This one little quilt was sent out this week where it can do the most good.

Here are my numbers for the week.

  • Added this week:  28yds

  • Added this year:  227.5

  • Used this week:  34.25

  • Used this year: 220.25

  • Net 2012 -7.25

Stash Report - Week 43, 2012

I've had a good week in the Used Fabric column.   After I rented time on the long arm to quilt my quilts I waited until I made and sewed down the binding before counting the fabric. I might have to rethink when I count it out or have a better way to keep track then scraps of paper taped to the wall.  :)  I'll show the quilts after I've finish the hand work.

So here's the list of what I'm counting today - 6 pillowcases, Coffee churn dash, Cowboy take 5, Construction, Tumbler.  Just so I don't forget and try to count it again.  Ha

I finished hand stitching down the binding on the t-shirt quilt.  While we had a few cool days, for the most part it's just been to warm to set with a quilt on my lap even in the evening. This one turned out a bit bigger than I'd planned but it's really had to narrow down twenty plus years of riding.

Had a few extras so they went on the back.

I bought this fabric from Connecting Threads back in July and I knew exactly what I wanted to use it for.  I very carefully calculated how much of each fabric I wanted.  Here it is October and I don't have a clue.  I know it included pillowcases and table runners.  Now I'm guessing I should make notes when I order the fabric and put the note with the fabric when it arrives.  I'll make good use of it this week but I'd sure like to know what I had planned.  LOL

I've signed up for a craft faire with a few girlfriends.  I'm trying to make items for the craft faire too.  That's where the pillowcases come in and it's a great way to use my stash for the after holidays sales.

I'm so close to breaking even....but I know I have a box coming this week, so there goes the add column again.

  • Fabric Added this week:  0 yds

  • Fabric Added this year:  199.5 yds

  • Fabric Used this week:  32.75 yds

  • Fabric Used this year:  186.0 yds

  • Net used 2021:  -13.5

We've had a touch of fall here last week and it inspired me to do the front porch.  We have on trick or treaters and no visitors so this is just for us, and you of course.

Catching Up

It's Friday and I'm Whooping it up cause I got stuff done.

I'm amazed that it is Friday already, but on the other hand I do feel like I am catching up ..sort of.  I've rented time on a long arm machine lately and I had a stack of quilts that needed binding.

I got these three done on Monday.

Somehow Tuesday got away from me.  I can't believe how long a run to Costco and Target take.  Sometimes I think I must be the slowest person on earth.  So it wasn't until Wednesday that I finished this stack.

Binding attached to six quilts of all sizes and I've finished the hand sewing on one and a half.   I still have two more bindings to make and attached.  Both are wall hangings and I need to decide how I want to hang them.  Do I want tabs or the sleeve thingy on the back that I've never made before?

The weather is changing again here in Southern California it's suppose to get hot and dry again.  It has made for some beautiful sunsets.  I'll leave you with this one from Tuesday.

I'm linking up with Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  Check out what everyone has done this week.

Have a great weekend with lots of sewing.

Stash Report - Week 42, 2012

I did it again.  I bought fabric, and I'm OK with that.  LOL

I bought 2.5 yards to make pillowcases for a fund raiser so that fabric was in and out.  I also bought half a bolt of RJR Black Magic.  I love this black cotton and it was 30% off, how could I go wrong.

Then there was some scraps, you know the kind, as much as you can fit in that itty bitty bag.  I have to admit I'm a good scrap packer. :)  Even my quilting girlfriend looked at me funny and ask what I was going to do with them.  I told her I'm going to make stuff.  LOL  But really just look at those wonderful colors.

  • Added this Week:  11.5 yds

  • Added this Year:  199.5 yds

  • Used this Week:  2.5 yds

  • Used this Year: 153.25

  • Net used 2012:  -46.25

Looks like I'll be going over that 200 yards mark before the end of the year since I'm waiting for a box from Connecting Threads.

On the plus side I have this stack of quilted quilts to trim and bind and the fabric for only two of them has been counted .  I have to get all my little notes and adding machine and get to work on that.

I've wanted to make some mug rugs for awhile but also told myself to finish up some projects.  With that stack of done setting on the table I paused to sew up a couple of the mug rugs.  I just have to bind them too.  But I'm loving them and they're so fun to make.

I'm linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times and checking out everyone's stash report. I love Sunday evening stash reports.

Have a great week.

Stash Report - Week 41, 2012

And I was doing so good, well not really.  I've been sewing but I've dug a deep hole this year.  Silly me I still think I can break even by week 52, but not this week.

My box from connecting threads arrived and I've used five of the eleven yard that was in the box.  That's good right?

  • Added this Week:  11.75 yds

  • Added this Year:  188.00 yds

  • Used this Week:  7 yds

  • Used this Year:  150.75

  • Net used 2012:  -37.25

For more stash reports go to Judy's, I'm going to go sew and work on that negative number.

Disappearing Nine Patch Finish

Ok so this darling little quilt has been done for a while now.  With the heat these last two months it's taking me longer to bind my quilts than normal, not that I'm all that fast.  So this one is ready to show.

I first read about this Disappearing Nine Patch here on Jo's Country Junction, one of my daily reads and knew I wanted to try it. When I saw her quilt I thought of a pair of charm square pack I'd just bought.  Found Jo's tutorial here. Then went to the stash for the pink and white and next thing you know I was on my way.

I love love this Heidi Grace fabric on the back.

This is my favorite shot from the whole photo shoot that we did  of the quilts

I'm super thrilled with how it turned out and how fast it goes together.  I'm glad I tried it and I can see making more of these quilts.

  • Used this Week:  1.5

  • Used this Year:  143.75

  • Net Used 2012:  -32.50

The net used is going to take a hit this coming week if my fabric order arrives.  Some of it  is for quilt backs and borders so maybe I'll be able to turn that part right around.  Ha Ha!!

Saturday Glorious Saturday

Yes it's Saturday and I get to be at home !!!   Not my day to work, no errands to run, just time to fill with my projects today.

Because I worked here yesterday.

With these tools.

Today I get to work here.

Between loads of laundry and the vacuum that is staring me down.

Maybe I'll have something new to show by the evening.

Have a Glorious Saturday

Tablerunners

You know those days where you'll just do one more thing before you start sewing and next thing you know the day is mostly gone?  That was today.  It's all just little things like change the water on the trees, go to the market, make lunch, cut up the watermelon.  Then you just have to put your foot down and say I'm going upstairs now.  :)

I am so loving my new tablerunners.  The fall one with the scarecrows is just too cute.  It's getting put out this weekend so I can enjoy it for two whole months.  That is my Whoop Whoop.

The christmas tree runner is for the big table that may or may not get used this year but I'll be ready if we do.

I celebrated my birthday three days in a row so I'm thinking that's another Whoop Whoop.  I wrote about my Birthday List, from last year, I'm not making one this year I'll just keep chipping away at the list I have.  Having my very first give away on my Birthday Post too.

I'm linking up with Confessions of a Fabric Addict today for Whoop Whoop Friday.  Did you see that first quilt picture?  It is beautiful.
