Stash Report Week 52, 2013

Last stash report of 2013 and I have fabric out.  I'm so thrilled!!!!

I have decided to continue with the stash reports in 2014.  In typical Harriett fashion I've been going back and forth about what I want to join/try/continue/report/keep-up/start in the New Year.  There is so much that I want to do, want to try that it would be real easy to try to do too much and then end up not doing any. Does that happen to you?

So far I know that I'll continue with the stash report.  Hey at least I've made one decision.

Here are my year end numbers:  I finished the snowman quilt this week and I'll show it on Friday, I'm doing some handquilting on it.

  • Added This Week: 0 yards

  • Added This Year:   416.50 yards

  • Used  This Week:  5.50 yards

  • Used This Year:  275.75 yards

  • Net 2012 -140.75 yards

In 2014 my goal is to work my stash.  While I've not been quilting for a long time I've been a real good shopper.  I think  because I was a new quilter and didn't really know where I was going with it I bought fabric I liked. Now I have a better ideal where I want to go with my quilting and this year I want to make room in my closet for different fabrics. But I must admit there are not too many fabrics I don't like.

Stash Report Week 51, 2013

I'm celebrating making my goal of less than 150 yards stashed this year.  Even with the few yards that were brought in this week I've made my goal.  It was really close with all the year end sales coming to my inbox and I even did some window shopping on a few web sites but I stayed strong.

I finished the John Deere Quilt and it's a the quilters so I can count it out and that  and a little Christmas sewing is what set me over my goal.

[caption id="attachment_2397" align="aligncenter" width="300"]John Deere Quilt Top John Deere Quilt Top[/caption]

Here are the numbers:

  • Added This Week:  3 yards

  • Added This Year:   416.50 yards

  • Used  This Week:  11.5 yards

  • Used This Year:  270.25 yards

  • Net 2012 -146.25 yards

One more week and I will have a little more yardage used.  I'm thrilled with my usage this year and love all the fabric added to the stash, I'll start using it on New Years Day.

I'm linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times. Check it out to see more stash reports.

New FO List 2014

2014NewFOChallenge_zps5a31001d

It's that time of year again when Barbara over at Cat Patches encourages us to be creative.  Just when you are feeling all burnt out from the Christmas crunch of finishing up projects and in danger of getting that let down feeling of no projects lined up waiting.  Barbara bless her heart asks.  So what do you want to do in 2014?

There's no pressure, just creative ideals flowing.  Here's the best part, well for me anyway..nothing is set in stone.  For example look at my list from last year that has been hanging on my wall for a WHOLE year.

[caption id="attachment_2390" align="aligncenter" width="225"]2013 List 2013 List[/caption]

Do you see anything crossed off?  Nope, Nada, Zip, and you know what? I'm totally OK with that cause I did get lots done and lots of quilts made just not these ones.  Only one quilt on the list is moving on to the 2014 list cause I'm just not interested in doing the others now. The fabric that was pulled for those quilts is put back in the stash and will find it's way into another quilt this year.

Short list this year.

1.  Christmas Fairies, it is the one I'm moving forward from last year. This one still has my interest, I still want to do this one.

[caption id="attachment_1586" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Christmas Faires Christmas Faires[/caption]

2. Zen Quilt:  by Kimberly Rado, using her  Graffetti line of fabric.

NF 2014 3 NF 2014 2

3. Woodland Fairies: These blocks have been on my mind a lot so I think it's time to make the quilt.

[caption id="attachment_2387" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Woodland Faires Woodland Faires[/caption]

That's my list for 2014. I learned from last year not to plan to much because I seem to be an in-the-moment-start-a-quilt kind of girl.

Want to thank Barbara again for inspiring us to create.

Design Wall & Stash Report on Tuesday

I'm late to both parties, and I've only myself to blame, though if I tried real hard I could share some with Mr. Bill.  On Friday I was done with Christmas. Everything was boxed and mailed. Oh I was so full of myself, for about five hours. Then I heard the words "I want a fuzzy quilt" after determining the definition of "fuzzy".  I was going through my flannels when I happen a upon some John Deere flannel. Oops there is a friend that I wanted to make a JD quilt for.  So what this all means is I'm trying to get two more quilts done for Christmas and I went shopping for fabric for these two quilts plus one that is due between Christmas and New Year.

So here are the John Deere blocks on the design wall:

[caption id="attachment_2383" align="aligncenter" width="300"]John Deere Blocks John Deere Blocks[/caption]

All the blocks are done and I'm working on sashing.  I will quilt this on my machine so it will be simple line quilting.

Stash Report Week 50:

I was so close to my goal of only stashing 150 yards this year. I picked up flannels for the three quilts and for a giving quilt that is in the works too.

[caption id="attachment_2382" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Fuzzy Flannels Fuzzy Flannels[/caption]

I've already cut in to some of these and since I only bought what I needed I should be able to make by goal in the next two weeks.

  • Added This Week:  14 yards

  • Added This Year:   413.50 yards

  • Used  This Week:  14 yards

  • Used This Year:  258.75 yards

  • Net 2012 -154.75 yards

I'm liking up with Judy's Design Wall Monday (on Tuesday) so go check out all the wonderful quilts that people are making.

Stash Report Week 49, 2013

There has been a lot of sewing going on.  There has also been some buying going on.  A lot of what was bought went right out again, so it's all good. Right

Here's some of the incoming fabric.

[caption id="attachment_2374" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Shopping Happen Shopping Happen[/caption]

It all has purpose so there is still hope of making of making my goal, I'm so close.

  • Added since last report: 25 yards

  • Added this year: 399.5 yards

  • Used since last report: 32.5 yards

  • Used this year: 244.75 yards

  • Net 2012 -154.75 yards

Judy has said that Stash Reports will continue next year.  I'm sort of on the fence about continuing with the reports.  It's true that it does make me think twice (sometimes) about fabric. I'm not always real good about keeping track when I'm cutting and sewing.

I've Been Working on the Railroad

I'm working on my own little railroad. When you build a railroad you need

WIP Dec 4 1

Railroad ties and Roadbed.

[caption id="attachment_2365" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Railroad Ties and Roadbed Railroad Ties and Roadbed[/caption]

Then you need lots of spikes, I mean pins

Then you just keep building and working away ....

until you finally have enough rail for your train.

This will be getting finished up soon so it can be shipped off for Christmas.

Design Wall Monday December 2, 2013

Oh My. It's been awhile, like two months since I posted my design wall.  It's not because of lack of projects I'll chalk it up to lack of time.

This is the beginnings of a Christmas present. It's suppose to go to the quilter tomorrow. I'm thinking it will be late afternoon at best before it gets there.

Stash Report Week 46, 2013

Oh dear. I've missed a few reports, ok it's more like several reports.  I've been busy sewing up a storm for the craft show which is over now.  Yes I did a happy dance.  Some fabric was bought these past weeks, I didn't even get a photo because is was cut and used right away. Here are two Thanksgiving quilts I just finished up.

[caption id="attachment_2350" align="aligncenter" width="199"]strippie quilt strippie quilt[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_2351" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Thanksgiving quilt Thanksgiving quilt[/caption]

  • Added since last report: 5 yards

  • Added this year: 374.5 yards

  • Used since last report: 13 yards

  • Used this year: 212.25 yards

  • Net 2012 -162.25  yards

I think I'm right on track to get that red number down to 150 or less.

I keep going back and forth about keeping up with the stash report next year. It does keep me aware of what I'm stashing and I've been doing really good about not stashing these last 100 days of the year. Everything purchased has been used right away. Still have made up my mind after all I have another month before I decide.

I'm late tonight but I'll be linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times.

Stash Report Week 43, 2013

I've been super busy in the sewing room. Sewing for a craft show can really help put a dent in the stash report.

Between holiday sewing and the craft show I'm moving toward my goal.

[caption id="attachment_2343" align="aligncenter" width="273"]Stack of pillowcases Stack of pillowcases[/caption]

  • Used since last report: 29 yards

  • Used this year: 199.25  yards

  • Net 2012 -170.25  yards

Only 21 yards to use up to reach my 150 yards stashed this year goal.  I think I'm going to make it. Cause I've some more Christmas stuff in the works.

Stash Report Week 42 2013

If this is week 42 and there are 52 weeks in a year my advance math skills tells me that there are only 10 reports left this year. Holy Time is Flying By Batman! I won't ask what the heck happen to this year because I know that we've been busy doing something every single day and still it just seems to zoom past us.  Well enough of that. Today is about fabric.

  • Added since last report: 9 yards

  • Added this year: 366.50 yards

  • Used since last report: 14.50 yards

  • Used this year: 170.25  yards

  • Net 2012 -196.25  yards

My goal this year is to be at -150 yards or even less (stop laughing it could happen) That's like only 5 yards a week or 5 good size quilts or 50 pillowcases.  :)

Design Wall Monday October 14, 2013

Up on the design wall today is this little Christmas quilt that I've been calling Christmas Quickie. I started it two years ago as a quick little Christmas quilt. I pulled it out and looked at it last year but this year it's getting finished. Piecing the back today and onto quilting.

Stash Report Week 41, 2013

Over the summer I was a bit lax with my stash report, ok a lot lax. But I'm ready to get back in the habit of reporting stash on Sunday.

There has been sewing going on here since I'm getting ready for a craft show in November.  Table runners, Pillowcases, ornaments and a few lap quilts are all in the works.

[caption id="attachment_2328" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Shopping Trip Shopping Trip[/caption]

But there has also been shopping. You would be so proud of me I stuck to my list. Someone made that "No Stashing for 100 Days" rule. There was no fabric bought for the stash, everything purchased has a purpose.  Some has already been cut and sewn and counted out. Got to love it when it's in and out in one week.

  • Added since last report: 10.25 yards

  • Added this year: 357.50 yards

  • Used since last report: 10.25 yards

  • Used this year: 155.75  yards

  • Net 2012  -201.75  yards

There I am, I still added a lot more this year than I've used.  My goal is to get that red number down to 150 or less. Don't laugh it could happen.

Just a little Progress..BFCO Day 2

On the sewing list I made some progress. I got up early and got four rows of the red/white quilt sewn.

No cleaning out today. Had to ship a box today so I did some straightening in the shipping room so I'm counting that.

Tomorrow I'm planning a big sewing day and Quilt Club tomorrow night. I'll be taking Christmas 1 to work on.

Big Fall Clean Out Day 1

A while back last week I was trying to find something. It wasn't a big thing but it was important for what I was doing at the time.  I searched and searched. I looked and looked. It was so frustrating because I'd been so careful not to miss place this item. As I was looking for said item, I even looked in places that it could not be unless it walked there it's self. Know what I mean.

This lead me to make a few decisions.  It was sheer coincidence that it was the first day of Autumn. That also according to the calendar there were 100 days left in this year.  What was I going to accomplish in the next 100 days?

There is a need here to clean out so that has lead to THE BIG FALL CLEAN OUT.

Here are my guidelines:

1. Official start October 1st.

2. No stashing, stocking up. Everything bought in the next 100 days has to be consumed. (I might have to make an exception for the day after Thanksgiving)

3. Work on making product for November Craft Show.

That is basically it. K.I.S.S.

So today's clean out:

Bottom two shelves in pantry. Sorted paper bags. Silverware drawer. Cleaned off the kitchen counter.

[caption id="attachment_2310" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Pantry Pantry[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_2311" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Drawer Drawer[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_2312" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Counter Counter[/caption]

Really it won't take long for that counter to get filled up again.

Sewing/Product

Finished the blocks for the red/white quilt.

[caption id="attachment_2314" align="aligncenter" width="225"]Red and White Quilt Red and White Quilt[/caption]

Started taking apart stool so Mr. Bill can paint the legs. Since he said he would paint the stool I snuck in a magazine rack and a chair too.  I was just trying to make it easy on him since I want them all the same color. :-)

[caption id="attachment_2313" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Stool to paint Stool to paint[/caption]

Ok that was day one of my Big Fall Clean Out.  Let's see how far I go.

September NewFO

I almost got out of September with out a NewFO, but I didn't quite finish a few things so I get to join the NewFo Party again this month.

The calendar says it's fall even if the weather here didn't get the message so I started this little flannel fall quilt.  It's now basted and ready to quilt.

[caption id="attachment_2299" align="aligncenter" width="251"]Fall Flannel Fall Flannel[/caption]

I also have a couple of Halloween table runners to finish up. They are also layered and ready to quilt, but here are the fabrics I'm using.  Don't you just love the spider color dots on the selvage.

[caption id="attachment_2302" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Halloween Tablerunners Halloween Tablerunners[/caption]

Here is a little update on last months NewFO.  I was just starting to trace my Hocupocusville blocks.  This is my homemade light box.  A thick piece of glass (maybe it use to be on a desk top) on top of some covered 2x4's with a couple of lights under it.  This really helps tracing on the darker fabrics.

[caption id="attachment_2301" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Hocupocusville Hocupocusville[/caption]

This month I've painted three blocks and I've started the embroidery so I'm using my darling Needle Nanny that I won last month when I had the luck NewFo number.

[caption id="attachment_2303" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Potting Shed Block Potting Shed Block[/caption]

This darling needle nanny is fantastic.  That needle does not go anywhere.

My little lama is so adorable!! Thank You So Much Barbara. I also received my very own portrait of Smitty. :)

Stash Report Week 38, 2013

It's been a long time since my last stash report.  I've had a few distractions around here.

[caption id="attachment_2280" align="aligncenter" width="300"]It started with this It started with this[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_2281" align="aligncenter" width="300"]That lead to this That lead to this[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_2282" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Which became this Which became this[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_2284" align="aligncenter" width="225"]Then this Then this[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_2285" align="aligncenter" width="225"]Finally this. Finally this.[/caption]

Everything is back together again but what job it turned out to be.

The good news is that I have been doing some sewing not as much as I thought.  The other good news is that there has also been some shopping.

I usually just stack my fabric purchases for a photo cause you never know if "you know who" might be reading a post. :)

This time some fabrics were just so cute they had to have their own photo.

[caption id="attachment_2286" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Fall fabrics and Flannel Fall fabrics and Flannel[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_2287" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Thanksgiving Thanksgiving[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_2288" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Christmas Christmas[/caption]

Everything has a purpose and is in it's project bag.

Here are this weeks numbers;

  • Added since last report: 20.25 yards

  • Added this year: 347.25 yards

  • Used since last report: 42.50 yards

  • Used this year: 151.25 yards

  • Net 2012  -196.00 yards

I only have to use 96 yards by the end of the year to make my goal of being under 100 yards stashed.  I do have a lot of sewing to do by then but I'm thinking I'll have to adjust that goal.

August New FO

August is ending and I started two new quilts this month, both are in the beginning stage.  Don't you just love the excitement of starting a new quilt.  The colors, the cutting, the anticipation of beautiful blocks coming off the sewing machine.

This one is a Christmas gift, I know about time it got started.  I using this Sweet Menagerie pattern from Moda Bake Shop.  Is it just me or does anyone else have problems with precuts.  I mean really if I wanted a bad cut (too narrow and wonky) I can do those myself.  Really isn't the point of precuts to make it easier? But I digress.

[caption id="attachment_2258" align="aligncenter" width="225"]Christmas 1 Christmas 1[/caption]

I'm using a Hello Gorgeous Jelly Roll with white sashing. Love the colors in this line and I'm looking forward to working on this top this Labor Day Weekend.

My second start is a quilt that I've wanted to make for the longest time.  Since I first saw this quilt four years ago I've wanted this quilt. This quilt has be brewing!  After seeing this quilt I started looking for the pattern and bought it shortly after.  Always there in my pattern box asking is now the time?  Then almost two years ago I bought the fabric kit for the center of the quilt.  Now I've jumped in with both feet and I'm making my  Hocuspocusville quilt.  I'm so excited to be starting this quilt.

Labor Day Weekend Goals

Labor Day Weekend is here, the official, unofficial end of summer.  Except for the weather here there have been signs that summer is winding down.  It's not light outside when I wake up, the pumpkins are turning orange, traffic around the school has increased.  In truth I am ready for fall.  It's my most favorite time of year.

Jo at Jo's Country Junction has suggested listing our Labor Day Weekend Sewing Goals....Sounds good to me the List Maker. I've tried to keep it short and doable.

1. Fall Pillowcases

2. Trace all my Hocuspocusville blocks

[caption id="attachment_2257" align="aligncenter" width="225"]Hocupocusville Hocupocusville[/caption]

3. Two Aprons

4. Finish Cutting and Sewing 9 Patch blocks for Christmas present #1

[caption id="attachment_2258" align="aligncenter" width="225"]Christmas 1 Christmas 1[/caption]

Ok so I think I listed more than I'll have time for, I work on Saturday at the Antique Store and Sunday we've plans for a few hours in the afternoon.  Like it's the first time I wouldn't finish a list. :)

What ever you do this weekend, enjoy every minute of your last unofficial weekend of summer.

Design Wall Monday August 13, 2013

It's Monday again and time to check out the progress on my tumbler charm quilt.  In spite if several distractions I was able to make progress on the charm quilt this week.

I decided on a border color and all the charms were cut.  Saturday late afternoon I was able to start on the last 13 rows and finished them up by Sunday afternoon.  I now have 37 rows of 27 mini tumbler charms.  Now I need to sew a grey tumbler on each end of each row and then sew two rows of grey for the top and bottom border.

[caption id="attachment_2244" align="aligncenter" width="225"]Mini Tumbler Charm Mini Tumbler Charm[/caption]

Of course this is the week that the both sewing machines have appointments at the sewing machine spa.  I've so very lucky that my new sewing machine shop makes appointments so I don't have the two to three week wait time that I use to have.  I plan to use the down time this week to clean up the sewing room that looks like  a fabric tornado came through.

[caption id="attachment_2243" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Bonus. Used up 10 of these Bonus. Used up 10 of these[/caption]

I'll need to go through the closet for a backing and then I'm thinking about how I want to quilt it.  Did I mention that it has to be done, as in completely done by Sept 5th.  Yikes and no machine time until Friday or Saturday.

I'm linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times for Design Wall Monday,
