Get It Done January Report / February Goals

So how did I do on my January Get it Done List.  I'd have to say I did fair. In the middle of the month I received a rush order for two memory quilts so things got shuffled around

1.  New Year Day Quilt of Valor:   I want to have the top completed including boarders.  The back and binding made and ready for quilting.  The strips are ready to go for New Year Day.  I got the center completed and I'm deciding on borders.

GDone janend1

2.  Christmas Quilt Along:  I almost have all the pieces cut.  I want to have the blocks made and sewn together. This has become a leader/ender project and I'm making headway on it.

3.  Cowboy Tumbler:  Finish Cutting out the tumblers and complete the top.  I'd like to get this one quilted this month.  I need to cut more tumblers

4.  Red & White:  Make two more sets of blocks. Done..I made three more sets of blocks.

GDone janend2

I'm really glad that Judy came up with this challenge. While I didn't get everything on my list done, I did get a lot done in a month with very limited sewing time.

FEBRUARY GET IT DONE GOALS:

1. Trace five blocks for Snowman Quilt.

2. Trace blocks for Route 66 Quilt.

3. Make light table for tracing the above blocks.

4. Easter Quilt

5. Also work on finishing up the January List

That's my list for February.

I have become increasingly frustrated with my lack of having hand work ready for taking with me to work on, so this month I'm putting it on the list.  By the end of this month I will  have hand work to take with me.

I want to make a cute little Easter Quilt (I have a panel somewhere in my fabric closet).

Of course I still want to finish up the January List.

Stash Report Week 4, 2013

It only took four weeks to have more fabric going out than coming in. Now I'm not saying that I'm in the black, oh no I'm still deeply intrenched in the RED.

I bought a yard of white on white for my red and white quilt, yes I kept the in coming down to one yard.

I finished up the memory quilt tops and while they are at the quilter's I've been able to a few things finished up.

Five valentine pillowcases, done!  I also did some cutting and sewing on my Get it Done list.  I  don't count the fabric until I finish the project or else I'd have zero stash and gazillion UFO's.  :)

What's Cooking - Creamed Corn

I think I kinda wimped out on this challenge.  I wrote my draft on Monday night after our dinner that included cream style corn.  We are and have been on a restrictive diet since December (not my fault) so finding recipes that fit the challenge and our diet has been, well challenging.  The recipes I found had several things that are on the "not at this time" list.  Really even cream corn should be on the list too.  But I broke down and bought a can and I think in the back of my mind I just wanted cream corn cause it's going to be a long time before it jumps into the shopping cart again.

So here's what I did with the can of cream style corn.

This weeks challenge ingredient is Creamed Corn.  Now for full discloser Mr. Bill and I both really like creamed corn.  We just don't have it very often, like it's been over a year since we've had it.  I googled, I searched, I went through cookbooks.  After all the reading and searching I just couldn't come up with anything better than heating it up straight from the can and serving it.

Jan23

I made my sort-of-Salisbury Steak, green salad and heated up the creamed corn.  A very yummy meal indeed.

Next week is tofu.  Back to google I go.

We drove to Yuma AZ this past weekend to attend an Antique Engine and Tractor show and bonus there was a quilt show happening in Yuma too.  We also got in some antiquing too. So now you know why there was no sewing happening.  Here are a couple of tractor photos for your enjoyment. I'll post quilt show pictures tomorrow.

Stash Report Week 3, 2013

So far this year I've added fabric every week for the stash report and today is no different.  Some how I got talked in to doing an embroidery project with some of the girls at quilt club.  It's Crabapple Hill "Snowmen A to Z.  Two blocks a month and we'll be done this year.  HA I say HA HA!!  I've had the pattern for at least a year, but now with this shove  nudge from the girls on Thursday night I've bought the fabric and I might, just might have the tracing done by Valentine's Day.

I have other commitments this week and there will not be much happening in this sewing room.

I added 4 yards of white on white fabric for the snowmen.

  • Added this week: 4.0

  • Added this year:  40.25

  • Used this week:  0.50

  • Used this year:  2.0

  • Net 2012  -38.25

Show Your Socks Jan 17th

I love socks!  I love socks so much that I have TWO sock drawers.  When we go on vacation I always come home with more socks.  Here is what I'm wearing today.

sock117 2

Because there is more to the socks I took them off briefly for the second photo.

sock117 1

I bought these in AZ before doing this half marathon and I've been rocking them ever since.

Check out more socks at Judy's.

My New Old Bobbin Holder

Just look at my darling new to me bobbin holder.

mgashtray 1

I have to admit that I do love Milk Glass and I love vintage ashtrays.  Some of the ashtrays from the 50's and 60's are works of art.  While we're not smokers I probably have more ashtrays in my house than people who do smoke.  I like to repurpose them and that's how I got this wonderful bobbin holder that sets next to my sewing machine for my partially filled bobbins I used for piecing.

Seeing as I'm sewing makes me happy.

Tuesday Night Dinner Spinach

The challenge food for the week was spinach. Now this was a poser for me, I not real fond of spinach but Mr. Bill really really likes spinach.  Usually I steam it and serve it with fresh lemon and he's happy.  So as soon a I read the challenge food I started searching the internet for recipes. I  wasn't liking any of the ones I found and I was starting to think I might have to pass on this weeks challenge when I had a 70's flashback and thought of quiche.  Way back when I recall making a spinach quiche so I was in again.

I looked up several recipes but in the end I just sort of made it up as I went. I used:

4-eggs, 1-bunch green onions, chopped,  3-strips bacon, 1-bunch fresh spinach, 3-4 mushrooms 1/8t garlic power, 1/8t onion power, shredded cheddar cheese.  Steamed the spinach, squeeze excess water. Cook bacon, drain. Lightly brown onions and mushrooms. I scrambled the eggs and added all the ingredients in the bowl.

[caption id="attachment_1674" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Fresh from the Oven Fresh from the Oven[/caption]

Because I wanted this to be a side dish not the main dish I made mine in my muffin pan.  I used pam..sprayed it in and wiped it around the cup. Spooned the mix in to the cups and baked at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. (I only put a little spinach in my serving, can you tell which one it is?)

It tasted really good and I served it with baked chicken and green salad.

Stash Report - Week 2, 2013

Stash Report   Quiltathon Update   100 Post Give-A-Way

As you can see this post is covering a lot this week cause there's just so much going on.

Stash Report:

Week 2 and I'm in the red already.  This should not be too big of a surprise since I was already in the red last week just not as deep. :)

[caption id="attachment_1656" align="aligncenter" width="300"]For Pillowcases For Pillowcases[/caption]

I picked up some cute Valentine fabric for pillowcases.  Then just fell in love with the yellow and purple buffalo plaids, these will be pillowcases for us.

[caption id="attachment_1657" align="aligncenter" width="300"]yummy flannel yummy flannel[/caption]

Now that I think about it Mr. Bill is partly to blame, yep he is.  See it's like this.  I bought some cute Peanuts fabric to make a pillowcase (did you see that "A" as in one). Then he says that would make a cute quilt and you should make a pair of pillowcases.  So what was I to do but head back to the store and buy more!!

[caption id="attachment_1655" align="aligncenter" width="300"]quilt, pillowcases quilt, pillowcases[/caption]

The purple and green are for pillowcases for a bridal shower.

I have been cutting and sewing but I've only finished one table runner  so that was all I could count this week. I'd like to tell you that it will be different next week but I'm setting here with my Connecting Threads Catalog.

[caption id="attachment_1658" align="aligncenter" width="199"]Valentine Tablerunner Valentine Tablerunner[/caption]

So here are my final numbers for this week

  • Added this week: 32.25

  • Added this year:  36.25

  • Used this week:  1.00

  • Used this year:  1.50

  • Net 2012  -34.75

Quiltathon:

My quiltathon update.  I got about 3 hours of sewing on Thursday afternoon and then I got up early this morning and sewed for another hour.  I got all the rows on my QOV sewn together and the Peanuts quilt top done.  I'll have pictures for tomorrows design wall if I can find my camera in this black hole we call home. :)

100th Post Give-A-Way:

This is my 100th post.  I know to some that doesn't sound like much but for me that's alot, when some people thought I would last a week but it's been a year  and 100 post.  To celebrate I'm having a give away. These five batik fat quarters.

[caption id="attachment_1660" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Pastel Batiks Pastel Batiks[/caption]

Just leave a comment, you can tell me how many post you've written or just say hi. On Wednesday my random number picker (Mr. Bill) will pick  a number.

A finish for 2013

Here is my first finish for 2013.  A Quilt of Valor that I started last year, I just finished the binding this week.   I'm currently sewing down the binding on another one and then I'll have three to send off.

Fri 1-11

I have had time in the sewing room this week, but it was also a week filled with appointments so there are several things in the works with some being very close to done.

Tuesday Night Dinner Experiment

Ok here's a news flash...I'm not a great cook.  I strongly admire those people that can walk into a kitchen and next thing you know this wonderful dinner is on the table and everything comes out hot and at the same time.  I'll never be that person.

In early December we made some changes to our eating habits.  One of which is not eating out so often.  This is where not being a great cook comes in.  I'm ok with the basics but you can get tired of the basics real fast.  So I've decided to experiment once a week.  Because of our schedules that night is Tuesday.  Last night was the first experiment.

[caption id="attachment_1637" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Here it is in the pan Here it is in the pan[/caption]

Steak stir-fry.  I just kind of made this up as I went.  I bought thin cut steaks and cut it in to strips and dredged it in Famous Dave's Rib Rub. Thinly cut up vegetables, I used broccoli, cauliflower, celery, red pepper and carrots. A little oil in the pan toss in the meat and vegetables, stir fry and  serve.  You can serve it over rice or pasta but that is another thing we've cut out.  Does this count as the carrot challenge from Judy?  It does for me.  Because this might be as creative as I get.

[caption id="attachment_1638" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Dinner on the plate Dinner on the plate[/caption]

I'm also giving Judy full credit for the fact that I'm now taking pictures of my food.  Now I could have a use for my large plate collection.

I'm linking up with Judy at Patchwork times.

Spinach for next week.  Mr Bill does like his spinach, we'll see if I get inspired.

Design Wall January 7, 2013

I'm working on a couple of things at the same time.  I have a little table runner laid out on the ironing board.

DW1-71

The quilt of valor up on the design wall.

DW1-72

I'm not sure how much sewing time I'll have this week, classes start up again.  In addition to my upholstery class I've added a computer class on Monday night.  I'm looking forward to Thursday quiltathon.  It's the only day I'll be able join in but I've got great plans and a long list.

A lot of blogs I read are posting their 1000th post.  Well here in my little corner of blog land  this is my 97th post.  Not so bad for just barely one year of blogging.  I'm still trying to make it more of a habit.  I will be doing a give away on my 100th post.

Stash Report Week1, 2013

I was doing so good.  I stayed away from the after Christmas sales (mostly) and it was going to be smooth sailing in to the New Year!

Well Darn! I was cutting my strips for my New Year Day QOV and I need more variety so off to the LQS I ran to pick up some beautiful Red and Blue fabric and I'm so glad I did because I'm liking my blocks alot.  Maybe today they will all be sewn together in beautiful rows.

SR1

I've been sewing and cutting but I can only count out half a yard for binding.

New Year Day Set n Sew

This was my very first New Year Set and Sew.

My plan was to head to the sewing room early, but after being up until after 12:30 last night staying in the warm bed won out over the cold sewing room.  So after breakfast and clean-up I went up to the sewing room to start on my NYD Quilt of Valor.  Then it was off to the early show at the movies. Jack Reacher in case you were wondering.

After the show it was back to the sewing room for me until dinner.  I completed 24 blocks for the quilt of valor.  I also cut, made and attached  the binding to my little beach quilt.

QOV 1-1-13

I'm thinking the next day I can spend quality time with my sewing machine will be on Thursday.  I'll finish up the blocks and maybe even get some rows sewn.

I'm linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times for QOV set and sew progress.
