Stash Report Week 7, 2015

I've gotten to the sewing room more days this week than last.  Mostly in little bits of time and that's OK because it's getting stuff done.

I've been cutting up scraps and working on finishing up a Quilt of Valor.  Good news is the quilt is ready to go to the quilter !! That means I get to count out the fabric for the top and back.

I didn't get a photo of the top (it was dark when I finished) but I'll show it when I get it back.

Design Wall Monday December 15, 2014

I've finished up Christmas sewing and can get back to finishing up (or starting) projects.

I'm putting up some string QOV blocks that I'd like to get sewn up this week.

These little blocks have been leaders/enders for the past year and I was playing with layouts.  Of course I like both so I'm back to making more little Nine Patches.

Summer Break 2014 Week 4

Summer Break Week Four just sort of flew by.  It was taken up with appointments and errands and then there was the 4th of July  too.  What a great week.

I took the chairs I finished last week into the shop, worked on my QOV string blocks.  Had an eye exam, yes I still need glasses for hand work.

Machine sewed binding on a QOV ready for the hand work, Usually my favorite part but it's been a tad bit warm for having a quilt on your lap here.  Time to break out the little table I have to rest it on.

On my three summer projects.  I got 14 3 inch 9-patchs finished  and five more blocks for the 2" quilt.  No sets cut for the plus quilt.  I realized this week that I want to add some holiday fabric in to all three of these quilts and the timing is perfect since I'm pulling out my Halloween and Christmas fabric so I can at least pretend that I'm ahead of the game.  :)

2.5" Plus quilt: Have 10 sets of 4 cut. Need 21 more sets for a total of 31

That wraps it up for week 4.  I'm starting on a super secret project tomorrow morning.  I'll tell you all about it next week.

Have a good week and stay cool

Stash Report Week 27, 2014

This week just flew by.  I think the second half of the year goes so much faster than the first half, maybe cause it's all down hill. :)

I did a bit of stash enhancement but to balance it out I did some de-stashing too.

On a short little trip to buy fabric for ONE pillowcase 10 yards of fabric found a new home

SR27 1

There is pillowcase fabric and the red in back is for the QOV I'm working on.

[caption id="attachment_2784" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Love these bottle caps Love these bottle caps[/caption]

Then my sister told me she needed to make baby blankets so this stack of flannel is on it's way to here.

SR27 5

I made a new drag-a-long blanket for my nephew

[caption id="attachment_2785" align="aligncenter" width="300"]new blanket for J new blanket for J[/caption]

Oh and I did make that pillowcase. I decided that it needs a mate so that's on the list for this evening.

SR27 4

So when all  the math is done I still have more fabric going out than in.  Which is a first for me at the half way point.

Added this week:  10.25 Yards
Added this Year: 101.75 Yards
Used and donated last week: 31 Yards
Used this Year: 148.75 Yards
Net Used this Year 47 Yards

Have a great week and enjoy your summertime.

Summer Break Week 2

Week two of summer break and no finishes sure hope it won't be like this all summer.  So just what did get worked on this week?

There was some painting. I changed color in mid painting of the chairs and this is the vintage fabric I'm using on the seats.

[gallery ids="2738,2739,2740,2741,2742"]

We welcomed a new old sewing machine to the fold.  She came with her own cabinet. A singer 201

[gallery ids="2747,2749"]

We did some cleaning out, yes this part of the house still has original 1960's avocado green carpet. This is not the permanent home for the new machine.

SB Week2 1a

I started in on the guest room.  Can you believe there were still Halloween and Christmas pillowcases and table runners on the bed from last fall.  It's no wonder we don't get many guest. I think they're afraid they'll have to sleep on the floor for all the fabric on the bed.  Not really Sister, you can come anytime.

SB Week2 13

Mr Bill took apart an old pump organ.  Before you feel too bad it was in really bad shape and we saved the good pieces and carved pieces to repurpose.

[gallery columns="2" ids="2743,2744,2745,2746"]

Tuesday was QOV sew day.  We were making string blocks ala Al Lind.  I have a few many to go for my quilt top.  But I sure do like string quilts.  Here is the link to the pattern on the Quilts Of Valor site

This summer I'm trying to get the sewing room back in order and get all the donated scraps under control. Some times I have a hard time cutting up the larger scraps, cause wonder if I need a 4 inch block and I cut it all down to 2.5 in.  Really sometimes I can drive myself crazy.  Well not this summer it's all getting cut down to usable sizes and this fall I'll have a empty "scraps to cut down" bin (or two).

So with that in mind I'm cutting 2.5 in and 1.5 in squares in sets of five.  The 2.5 in for a plus quilt that I'm starting in the fall, as of this morning I only need 100 more sets, no matching sets for this one.  The 1.5in is for nine patch blocks I started last July as my leader/ender and I'm ready to finish it up too....But I need lots more for the layout I'm thinking so it has moved from leader/ender to summer project.

[caption id="attachment_2751" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Sweet little 9 patches that will finish at 3in Sweet little 9 patches that will finish at 3in[/caption]

Then there is the 2in quilt.  The one I was going to make one block a day quilt.  Well I'm only 13 days behind.  I'm thinking Wednesday night will be 2in nine patch marathon so I can get a few days ahead. I wrote about it here.

[caption id="attachment_2752" align="aligncenter" width="300"]2 in quilt 2 in quilt[/caption]

So that is how Week 2 went. Not so exciting yet but there's always hope.

Till next week.

Design Wall Monday March 17, 2014

I have more projects going right now than usual. I usually try to keep it down to one or two or three projects out and being worked on because with more than that happening things can get lost or mixed up.

I made a very ambitious goal list for March, so I've been working on checking things off that list. Also working from a list has kept me much more focused, go figure.

[caption id="attachment_2575" align="aligncenter" width="220"]Black & White with Charm Black & White with Charm[/caption]

I've been focused on my UFO's this month. On the design wall is the Black and White with Charms.  Then over here on the ironing board is the Disappearing 4 patch blocks I'm sewing in between the rows of the black and white. There are also some 3 1/2 inch 9 patches that I've been doing as a leader/ender that I want to speed up. The strips on the back of the ironing board are for QOV labels.

DW 3-17 2

I'm really hoping to be back in the sewing room this week, in fact I'm planning a mini solo retreat for Thursday and Friday.  Around here that could mean a couple of hours of uninterrupted sewing or a whole day, it will be a surprise and I will relish every moment.

I'm linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times so head on over there and check out the beautiful things that others are making.

I have two projects that I'm very excited about coming up and I'll be posting about them this week.

Stash Report Week 11, 2014

It's Sunday again and time to come clean. :)

You know how I've been trying to use up my flannel? Well it's like this.  The flannel was acquired over time and mostly at big sales, so it's a bit of a jumble and I knew going in that there would most likely almost certainly be times when I would have to pick up a bit to finish off a quilt.  This was one of those weeks.  I really really truly walked into the store just to get 1 yard of grey flannel.....but.....it was on sale and I know I need some white for the next quilt. OK so far no problem.  Then I had to wait for my turn at the cut table...What should my wandering eye find but a new fabric that will border the disappearing four patch, which just happens to be my UFO of the month.  So three and one half yards later it was over.  I could go home and cut into that grey and this week it can get sewn on. Whew, that was a close one, I'm sure if the line was longer the yardage would have gone up.

Lucky me I also had a bit of yardage going out. I took some fabric to quilt club to share and  I made QOV blocks for Kevin the Quilter's block drive.

[caption id="attachment_2568" align="aligncenter" width="300"]QOV Blocks QOV Blocks[/caption]

This a real easy block to make as long a I was paying attention, ask me why so many have a navy blue stripe. :0  Go check it out there are prizes.

Design Wall Monday July 8, 2013

It's so hard to grasp the the year is half over.  I've not gotten half of what I wanted done even making my get it done list didn't help this year.  I'd make my list and then something will come up and I'm changing course in mid stream.  My goals for the rest of the year is to just keep at  my first half of the year list.  :)  Then there are the quilts I want to get done for Christmas too. What to do first.

First I'll finish the QOV top that is on my design wall.

[caption id="attachment_2163" align="aligncenter" width="225"]July 8, 2013 July 8, 2013[/caption]

These are the blocks I started many many months ago for Alycia's February Block Drive.  Now you know how far behind I really am.  I'd like to finish it up this week and then take it and my sister's top and make an appointment for the long arm and get them quilted and sent off.

No sewing happen today, someone who will remain nameless passed on their sore throat and I just don't feel like dealing with the heat in the sewing room.(Mr Bill)  I think I'll set on the couch after dinner and check out everyone's design walls

Linking up with Patchwork Times for more design wall viewing.

Stash Report Week 27, 2013

I missed last week because my sister was here visiting and we were fabric shopping!  But there was some sewing going on too so some fabric came in and out without being counted and some moved in.

We finished up her QOV top (borders came from the stash)

[caption id="attachment_2156" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Quilt of Valor Quilt of Valor[/caption]

and then some pillowcases(just the cuffs from the stash) for the quilts that are all done except for the label.

[caption id="attachment_2157" align="aligncenter" width="300"]QOV Cases QOV Cases[/caption]

I also sent some fabric home with her, out is out right?

  • Added last week: 1.5 yards

  • Added this year: 308.0 yards

  • Used last week: 8.5 yards

  • Used this year: 172.5 yards

  • Net 2012 -136.5 yards

Last week Judy talked about keeping up with keeping track.  This is the second official year that I've been doing this.  Before that I'd started in the middle of the year and just kept track in my note book.  This is my second year of recording it on my blog which makes much easier to go back and compare my numbers, cause I don't have a clue where that notebook for 2011 is hiding.

Now I have to explain that I love numbers.  Math I'm not so wild about but numbers now that gets me going. Numbers are just full of information.  They tell you where you are, where you've been and they can tell you where you can go.  Love them!

Week 27, 2012, I had only stashed 35.75 yards this year I've stashed 136.5 yards.  Somehow this year I've stashed 100.75 more yards than at this time last year.  Yep this is the year I was going to stay in the black and really put a dent in the fabric closet.  (OK Kathy pull yourself together and stop laughing).  But this is where numbers come in ...are you ready?

There are 25 weeks left in this year.  All I have to do is use 5.5 yards a week and I'll break even at the end of the year.  If I use 6 yards a week I'll not only break even but I'll have used an extra 13.5 yards. Doesn't that sound wonderful ?  Heck all I have to do is finish up some UFO's that are setting here staring at me and I can meet that goal and surpass it. Now of course there is a catch,  there's always a catch right? you guessed it didn't you.  No bringing in fabric.  Ok Harriett back away from the checkout button.  :)  Like that's going to happen.

Stash Report - Week 2, 2013

Stash Report   Quiltathon Update   100 Post Give-A-Way

As you can see this post is covering a lot this week cause there's just so much going on.

Stash Report:

Week 2 and I'm in the red already.  This should not be too big of a surprise since I was already in the red last week just not as deep. :)

[caption id="attachment_1656" align="aligncenter" width="300"]For Pillowcases For Pillowcases[/caption]

I picked up some cute Valentine fabric for pillowcases.  Then just fell in love with the yellow and purple buffalo plaids, these will be pillowcases for us.

[caption id="attachment_1657" align="aligncenter" width="300"]yummy flannel yummy flannel[/caption]

Now that I think about it Mr. Bill is partly to blame, yep he is.  See it's like this.  I bought some cute Peanuts fabric to make a pillowcase (did you see that "A" as in one). Then he says that would make a cute quilt and you should make a pair of pillowcases.  So what was I to do but head back to the store and buy more!!

[caption id="attachment_1655" align="aligncenter" width="300"]quilt, pillowcases quilt, pillowcases[/caption]

The purple and green are for pillowcases for a bridal shower.

I have been cutting and sewing but I've only finished one table runner  so that was all I could count this week. I'd like to tell you that it will be different next week but I'm setting here with my Connecting Threads Catalog.

[caption id="attachment_1658" align="aligncenter" width="199"]Valentine Tablerunner Valentine Tablerunner[/caption]

So here are my final numbers for this week

  • Added this week: 32.25

  • Added this year:  36.25

  • Used this week:  1.00

  • Used this year:  1.50

  • Net 2012  -34.75

Quiltathon:

My quiltathon update.  I got about 3 hours of sewing on Thursday afternoon and then I got up early this morning and sewed for another hour.  I got all the rows on my QOV sewn together and the Peanuts quilt top done.  I'll have pictures for tomorrows design wall if I can find my camera in this black hole we call home. :)

100th Post Give-A-Way:

This is my 100th post.  I know to some that doesn't sound like much but for me that's alot, when some people thought I would last a week but it's been a year  and 100 post.  To celebrate I'm having a give away. These five batik fat quarters.

[caption id="attachment_1660" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Pastel Batiks Pastel Batiks[/caption]

Just leave a comment, you can tell me how many post you've written or just say hi. On Wednesday my random number picker (Mr. Bill) will pick  a number.

A finish for 2013

Here is my first finish for 2013.  A Quilt of Valor that I started last year, I just finished the binding this week.   I'm currently sewing down the binding on another one and then I'll have three to send off.

Fri 1-11

I have had time in the sewing room this week, but it was also a week filled with appointments so there are several things in the works with some being very close to done.

Design Wall January 7, 2013

I'm working on a couple of things at the same time.  I have a little table runner laid out on the ironing board.

DW1-71

The quilt of valor up on the design wall.

DW1-72

I'm not sure how much sewing time I'll have this week, classes start up again.  In addition to my upholstery class I've added a computer class on Monday night.  I'm looking forward to Thursday quiltathon.  It's the only day I'll be able join in but I've got great plans and a long list.

A lot of blogs I read are posting their 1000th post.  Well here in my little corner of blog land  this is my 97th post.  Not so bad for just barely one year of blogging.  I'm still trying to make it more of a habit.  I will be doing a give away on my 100th post.

For more design walls check out Patchwork Times.

New Year Day Set n Sew

This was my very first New Year Set and Sew.

My plan was to head to the sewing room early, but after being up until after 12:30 last night staying in the warm bed won out over the cold sewing room.  So after breakfast and clean-up I went up to the sewing room to start on my NYD Quilt of Valor.  Then it was off to the early show at the movies. Jack Reacher in case you were wondering.

After the show it was back to the sewing room for me until dinner.  I completed 24 blocks for the quilt of valor.  I also cut, made and attached  the binding to my little beach quilt.

QOV 1-1-13

I'm thinking the next day I can spend quality time with my sewing machine will be on Thursday.  I'll finish up the blocks and maybe even get some rows sewn.

I'm linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times for QOV set and sew progress.
