2. Quilt Red and Black with Cats

3. I found this Triangle Quilt-a-long  and would really like to do it. But it will most likely be next month

March Goals

It's time to finalize my  March Goals.

I get excited about making list and will just list everything I want to do, then I have to rein myself in and think about what is possible. Darn it, but I can't sit in my tower sewing room and just sew and sew, at least not this month.

1. Label and Bind  "Woods" quilt

2. Label and Bind "Thank You Deere" quilt

3 Wash and Label 4 QOV and send off

Yes this year I'm determined to get over my label phobia. :)

4. Complete tote bags for quilt club challenge

I was looking at my UFO's and they are just not moving along fast enough for me so I've decide to make them my main focus for March and April. Here's what I've chosen for March

5. Disappearing 4 Patch--This is my Lovely Year of Finishes Goal you can read about Here

6. Black and White with Charms-- Have a few rows done but now I need to locate a missing stack of charms.

7. Quilters puzzle--This is one of my oldest UFO's. It's cut out but that's all. I will decide if I'm still in love with it, if not the fabric will be return to the stash.

8. Finish my Orange Butterfly quilt- Have appointment with longarm, then label, bind and mail off

9. Start Baby quilt for my soon to be new nephew. This is my March NewFo

10. Complete 2 Halloween Hocuspocusville blocks.

11. Make tote bag for an April birthday

12. Make serious dent in taming scraps. Cut sizes needed for upcoming summer projects.

13.  Two flannel quilt tops. In January my quilt budding and I started cutting flannel to make giving quilts. My plan was to work on this at quilt club on Thursdays but that's not getting the kitted up quilts sewn very fast so I'm adding two quilt tops to my monthly goal.

I think this is where I should stop. I told you I can get carried away when making list.  I think about 80% of this list is doable even with a super busy month ahead, at least I have a plan so I'm not just wandering aimlessly around the sewing room.

What I'm Working On and Goal Setting

A while back, like the middle of December it got a bit chilly here. I mean some mornings it was 40 degrees when we got up in the morning.  That was when Mr. Bill requested a fuzzy quilt and being the sweetheart I am, cough, cough I jumped right on it.  Then this being southern CA we got a warming trend and it got put away for a while as I was cleaning the sewing room.

[caption id="attachment_2422" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Flannel Woods Flannel Woods[/caption]

Since I started it last year and it was put away in a project bag, I'm calling it a UFO. That way when I finish it I'll get to check it off the UFO list. I'm clever that way.

Speaking of UFO's so far I've listed 26 UFO's, 12 pulled projects and 2 long term projects. Now you know why I want to have something to cross off the list. :)

Since I've worked almost everyday since Christmas I'm giving myself to Friday to finish my list, yes I'm afraid there are more UFO/Projects lurking about in the sewing room. They are hiding but I will seek them out.

My goal is to work thru half of my UFO list what ever that number ends up being and half of my pulled projects and when I want to start something new it really should be one of them but I know that others things will get started too.

Labor Day Weekend Goals

Labor Day Weekend is here, the official, unofficial end of summer.  Except for the weather here there have been signs that summer is winding down.  It's not light outside when I wake up, the pumpkins are turning orange, traffic around the school has increased.  In truth I am ready for fall.  It's my most favorite time of year.

Jo at Jo's Country Junction has suggested listing our Labor Day Weekend Sewing Goals....Sounds good to me the List Maker. I've tried to keep it short and doable.

1. Fall Pillowcases

2. Trace all my Hocuspocusville blocks

[caption id="attachment_2257" align="aligncenter" width="225"]Hocupocusville Hocupocusville[/caption]

3. Two Aprons

4. Finish Cutting and Sewing 9 Patch blocks for Christmas present #1

[caption id="attachment_2258" align="aligncenter" width="225"]Christmas 1 Christmas 1[/caption]

Ok so I think I listed more than I'll have time for, I work on Saturday at the Antique Store and Sunday we've plans for a few hours in the afternoon.  Like it's the first time I wouldn't finish a list. :)

What ever you do this weekend, enjoy every minute of your last unofficial weekend of summer.

Setting August Goals

It's time to set my August Goals.  I've been very lax about keeping track of my goals for several months.  I end up with many lists in many different places and then I lose track of what I want to accomplish.  Today is a good day to get back in the habit of putting them on the blog.

I have lots of things I want to get done going around and around in my head.  Listing some here for me to track should help me narrow them down. Let's see what to put on the list? There is my quilt club challenge that is due Sept 5th so that's a given. Then I need to ramp up my sewing for the one craft show I do that is in November. There are birthday and Christmas presents to be made.  Holiday pillowcases.  Still have t-shirt pillowcases that haven't gotten done.  The embroidery quilt I'm not getting done very fast, ok I don't even know where the block is that I've been working on for three months.  Oh can't forget the labels I need to make and get sewn on to quilts. Then I wanted to do some rearranging in the sewing room this month while the sewing machines were at the sewing spa.  These are just the ones I can think of off the top. Who know what else will pop up during the month or what NewFo will be calling my name.  Darn I already feel so far behind and it's just the first day of August.

Here is my Get It Done List for August.

1. Charm quilt (this is the Quilt Club UFO Challenge)

2. Start on Fall and Holiday pillowcases Goal of 10 done in August

3. Make Labels and send out quilts

4. Make One tote bag

5. Trace blocks for embroidery quilt (find the first one too.)

Ok I think five set goals for August is good.  I've marked my calendar for a mid month check in on Aug 16th.

Ok August bring it on!

Stash Report Week 38, 2012

The weather did cool off for a few days here and I was able to get some outdoor/yard stuff done, but there's always piles more to do. I even got quality time in the sewing room.  The t-shirt quilt top is done and the backing fabric has been ordered.

I pulled out my bin of Halloween fabric because I'm a bit behind (as usual) in starting my holiday sewing.  I had two good days of making pillowcases.  I like this because it uses up the fabric and that means I can restock up at the after halloween sales.  :0)

By the time I was done I totaled 17 pillowcases.  Now I have a few tablerunners I'd like to get done this week.

I went to JoAnns for a 1/2 yard of fabric and 5 more yards jumped in the cart.  How does that happen.  The good part is that most if it has been used and all that left is the fabric for the tablerunners.

  • Added this week:  5.5 yds

  • Added this year:  176.25 yds

  • Used this week:  21 yds

  • Used this year:  142.25

  • Net 2012  -34 yds

Last week Judy mentioned that there were 15 weeks left in the year and today I read that there are 100 days (99 today) left in the year. Yes I want to know where the year went and why it goes so fast.  I think that writing a blog this year has helped me keep track, it's helped me set goals and keep them.  There is room for improvement as always and as I think about my goals for the next 99 days there is still a lot I'd like to get done this year.  I could make a nice long list  or I can focus on a few big goals.  Some thing to think about this evening while I sew some binding.

Stash Report Week 27, 2012

I have one of those office supply desk pad calendars, the kind that tells you how many days are gone this year and how many are left.  Well today it is even steven.  183/183.  Amazing how I use to think it was just the summer that flew by, now it's the whole year moving at warp speed.

Have I finished everything I wanted to by this time? No

Have I made some progress? Yes

Have I made a new list for the rest of the year? Of course

The good news is I had a couple of finishes so I can finely after weeks and weeks count some fabric out. :)

I finished my Sweet Treat and it's at the quilter and some pillowcases for 4th of July.

  • Added this week: 0 yds

  • Added this year: 114.25 yds

  • Used this week:  12.75 yds

  • Used this year:  78.50

  • Net used 2012: -35.75

This is the first year that I've attempted to keep track of my fabric in and out.  I didn't set any limits or goals because I had no ideal what to expect.  It is harder to keep track of fabric used than I had realized.  I don't always remember to measure before I cut and then I have to do math!

While I did really great in June not buying any fabric, the Christmas fabric is out and some of it is calling my name.
