Stash Report Week 12, 2013

Nothing in and nothing out this week so the numbers are the same.

Judy says the end of the first quarter is coming up, am I close to 1/4 of my goal for the year.   Yikes I better get sewing.  I've added more  and used more than this time last year, but I'm deeper in the hole than I was at this time last year.  Time to finish up some projects and set some second quarter goals.

So here are my numbers for this week;

  • Added this week: 38.0 yds

  • Added this year:  156.75 yds

  • Used this week:  8.25 yds

  • Used this year: 70.75 yds

  • Net 2012  -86.00 yds

Friday Finish: A Baby Quilt

Wow a Friday Finish! I haven't had one in a while.  One of my upholstery buddies is having a new granddaughter so I finished up this mini tumbler quilt for her.  I guess you could call this a UFO but I think really it was just ahead of it's time.

Fri3221

I made the quilt top a couple of years ago when I just starting out.  At that time I did all my quilting by check.  Heck I was just glad to figure out my sewing machine on a good day.  The thought of putting three layers under that presser foot would send me running for cover.  I'm so much better, now I just break out in a cold sweat and procrastinate as long a possible.

Fri3223

This time I decided to forgo the pins after the last learning experience and used the basting spray. Thank you for that advise.  I did wavy lines and then used some decorative stitches on my machine.

Fri3222

I'm happy with my effort and the Grandma loves it and that's what counts.

Good News Thursday

Judy at Patchwork times is hosting Good News Thursday and I think this could be a good thing for me.  It keeps me thinking about finding the good in the everyday.

My good news today just happen this morning.  I'd been thinking of something else I wanted to write about and to be truthful I did not see the good news here when I went to bed last night.

Here's what happen (don't you just love it when they say that in a mystery novel).  I came home from my upholstery class last night and put a load of wash in the the machine then went upstairs to sew binding on a quilt.  Finished that about 9pm, back downstairs to put said load in dryer. Set timer so I don't forget them in the dryer over night. OK  Mr. Bill comes home from his meeting we chat and the timer goes off and I go out but the clothes are not dry. OK I start dryer again and set timer.  By 10:30 I'm finally ready to admit that there could be a problem with the dryer.

Out comes the manual (yes we keep the manuals) read the troubleshooting list. yep yep yep.  Mr Bill says he'll pull out the dryer and check it in the morning.  On the manual I'd written the date February 2012.  Yes one year one month, out of warranty ?

This morning while Mr. Bill is pulling out the dryer I'm going through last years records for the receipt and YAY it says three year warranty.  I call the store where we bought the dryer (a family business that we've dealt with for years).  They are more than helpful and the repair man is coming tomorrow.

Ok here was the good I found:  Three year warranty. We had to call someone that we've known and did business with for years and we got to connect again and catch up with them and the family.  Sometimes we get wrapped up in the day to day and while we think about and wonder how someone is doing it's rare that we pick up the phone or stop by to find out how they are.  It was very good today to talk with old friends

I'm linking up with Judy to share my good news

Design Wall Monday March 18,2013

Up on the design wall is this sweet mini tumbler, made from baby flannel.  One of my upholstery buddies is going to be a grandma again so this top came off the shelf and is getting finished up this week.

Stash Report Week 11, 2013

There has been some sewing and some buying. So it's all good Right?

I finished up two small quilts, one Easter and one baby.  I'm still binding the baby quilt so there will be photos tomorrow but the Easter quilt has been delivered.

Ok so much for the sewing on to the buying.  Last week when I went to pick up the backing for my QOV there were some really nice backing fabrics in the sale section so I went back this week and picked up three more five yard cuts.  Then there were a few fabrics I needed..pink for the baby quilt..red for QOV..white, well you just always need some kona white on hand.

Then there was the fat quarter sale, there are fifty fat quarters here.  I wanted colors that I don't have much of in my stash.  I'm so proud there is only one purple in the whole bunch.  Greens and browns were sadly lacking in the stash along with blue, but not anymore.

Design Wall Monday March 11, 2013

Up on my design wall today is nothing, it's blank, a clean slate just waiting for me to come in and cut into these luscious orange fabrics to start a new quilt.

I think it will be a small quilt, maybe something with angles?  Can hardly wait for this afternoon.

Stash Report Week 10, 2013

Well it's like this, no really I can explain.  I just went to pick up the jelly bean fabric to finish up some pillowcases but those jelly beans invited their friends to join them in the cart. Oh don't forget to get some stars for decoration.  Then the next thing you know there was a party at Harriett's house.

[caption id="attachment_1918" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Need some stars too Need some stars too[/caption]

Then the next day the jelly beans called up their cousins the polka dots and they showed up. She needs you for a tote bag they said.

[caption id="attachment_1919" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Lets invite the cousins Lets invite the cousins[/caption]

Not to be out done by the dotty side of the family the reds/creams showed up at the door. We hear you make Quilts of Valor and we're on sale.

[caption id="attachment_1920" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Wait we want to come too! Wait we want to come too![/caption]

All I can say is that it's been quite a party this week.  I have a dozen pillowcases to show for it and did some cutting for another quilt.

Now in the aftermath all that's left to do is clean up the sewing room and use the rest of the  fabric. I'm renting time on the long arm again this week so I'll finish up something and be able to count it out.

  • Added this week: 31 yds

  • Added this year:  118.75 yds

  • Used this week:  12.5 yds

  • Used this year: 62.5  yds

  • Net 2012  -56.25 yds
