Design Wall Monday January 27, 2014

Up on the design wall today is a t-shirt quilt. I worked on it Thursday cutting t-shirts and ironing the interfacing and cutting again.  Started adding sashing and that's as far as I got before my super busy weekend started on Friday.



I spent some time sorting through the bins of flannel yesterday afternoon. K and I have spent three Thursday Nights at quilt club matching and cutting flannel. We have  8-10 quilts kitted up so I thought I'd organize the flannel we had left.  It doesn't even look like we made a dent in the bins. I thought for sure we emptied at least one bin and I really think we did it's just that not all the flannel was in bins before.  News Flash::

I DO NOT NEED ANY FLANNEL

I was wondering if you can make string quilts with flannel or does it get to bulky.  Guess I'll give it a try.

Stash Report Week 29, 2013

There was shopping done this week, there was lots of shopping. Want to see?

First is this great retro fabric called  "Potluck"  I love it.  It will become Aprons and maybe a few other items.

Then there is this apple fabric

Along with this green and red and creamy white that are going in to an apple theme quilt, I'll show you tomorrow.



Just look at all this wonderful Halloween fabric.  Oh yes Halloween gets the royal treatment , it's a gift giving holiday here.  There will be new holiday pillowcases this year.

Everything was bought with a purpose and some is already in the works.

There was some out-going fabric too, I finished up the t-shirt quilt and it's at the quilters

• Added last week: 19 yards


• Added this year: 327 yards


• Used last week: 8.25 yards


• Used this year: 180.75 yards


• Net 2012  -146.25 yards

Does Your Mind Wander When You Iron?

This week I've been working on a t-shirt quilt.  Anyone who has made a t-shirt quilt will probably agree that the most tedious part is ironing the interfacing on to the t-shirts.  When I first started making t-shirt quilts and I was ironing the interfacing I would hold the iron in place and count to 10, now don't laugh but I would often lose count.

I have to confess that it doesn't take much for my mind to wander off in any new direction and standing there holding the iron and counting I would look around and anything that caught my eye there went my mind too.  If I saw a fabric, I was thinking about what quilt I could make with it. A pattern and I was thinking what fabric do I have and what would I need to get to make this pattern.  Then there was ironing with my left hand and making the grocery list with my right..talk about losing count.  Lucky for me I always use a pressing cloth (old sheet) so there were no burnt t-shirts while  my mind wandered around the sewing room.

Now I only count to five and go around the shirt twice and make sure it's all fused.  My mind still wanders but I'm staying on task better.  HA!



The center of the quilt is an old  baby blanket.  I used steam a seam and fused it to muslin and added the blue border and fused it too so I'd have something to sew the rest of the quilt on to.  This was a very very well love blanket.  I'm taking it to my longarm quilter this week because of the blanket in the middle it's going to need custom quilting.
