Memory Quilt Finished

Memory quilt is finished.  This is the one I did for a co-worker at the antique store.  The center is what was left of her Son's baby blanket.  We had been talking about this one for a least a year or more and things would just keep coming up, you know like life.

It's been a while since I've had a finish.  I've been sewing and things are close but not quite.

I'm linking up with Confessions of a Fabric Addict cause this is something to Whoop about!

Design Wall Monday August 5,2013

Yes this is the same picture from last week because the design wall hasn't changed

Still working on my Mini Tumbler Charm Quilt this week.  I've add some tumblers to the design boards I will start sewing again when I have all of them cut.  The design wall is at capacity and it's easier to check the fabrics on the wall and the boards than to make rows and lay them out some where else.

I only need 76 more charms and I'll be ready to start sewing.

Setting August Goals

It's time to set my August Goals.  I've been very lax about keeping track of my goals for several months.  I end up with many lists in many different places and then I lose track of what I want to accomplish.  Today is a good day to get back in the habit of putting them on the blog.

I have lots of things I want to get done going around and around in my head.  Listing some here for me to track should help me narrow them down. Let's see what to put on the list? There is my quilt club challenge that is due Sept 5th so that's a given. Then I need to ramp up my sewing for the one craft show I do that is in November. There are birthday and Christmas presents to be made.  Holiday pillowcases.  Still have t-shirt pillowcases that haven't gotten done.  The embroidery quilt I'm not getting done very fast, ok I don't even know where the block is that I've been working on for three months.  Oh can't forget the labels I need to make and get sewn on to quilts. Then I wanted to do some rearranging in the sewing room this month while the sewing machines were at the sewing spa.  These are just the ones I can think of off the top. Who know what else will pop up during the month or what NewFo will be calling my name.  Darn I already feel so far behind and it's just the first day of August.

Here is my Get It Done List for August.

1. Charm quilt (this is the Quilt Club UFO Challenge)

2. Start on Fall and Holiday pillowcases Goal of 10 done in August

3. Make Labels and send out quilts

4. Make One tote bag

5. Trace blocks for embroidery quilt (find the first one too.)

Ok I think five set goals for August is good.  I've marked my calendar for a mid month check in on Aug 16th.

Ok August bring it on!

The un-intended July NewFO

Really I wasn't going to start anything new this month.  I'm suppose to be finishing up UFO's this summer.

It all started when he who will remain nameless brought home a cold and shared with me.  When I was not feeling so great but feeling restless I headed up to the sewing room.  Just sort of wandering and I opened my 1.5 inch square drawer and sat down at the machine.

First I started with similar squares paired with white squares.

I wasn't really thrilled that look so I pulled out sets of five and started making darling little 9 patches.  Oh I'm so loving my little 9 patches that are going to finish at 3 inches.

Now when I finish with a fabric or when I'm sorting scraps I cutting 1.5 inch sets of five.  I raided the pantry for the little paper plates and I keep the sets next to my machine and sew some as leader/enders and sometimes for 10 mins or so in the morning before I start my day.

I have 23 of these little beauties so far and I don't know how many I'll make but I'll just keep making them for a while and see what I end up with.

This could become a long term UFO.

Design Wall Monday July 29, 2013

It's Monday again, I know it's over stated but Mondays really do come around fast.  I've been busy outside of the sewing room a lot lately but I did manage to finish up the apple quilt and it's at the quilter. So I pulled out my summer UFO.  My quilt club breaks for the summer but at the last meeting in June we can challenge ourselves to finish a UFO over the summer.  So I jumped in.

My choice was my mini tumbler charm quilt.  This is a charm quilt in the traditional way with 999 different fabrics with no repeats.  First I set some rules guide lines.  1.No Christmas fabric and no Halloween fabric. I mean that would make it to easy cause I have tons of Christmas and Halloween.  2. The border fabric does not count in the 999 fabrics.  Other than that every thing was fair game. I've worked on this quilt off and on for a couple of years.  I put fabric pieces aside that I think I haven't used and then I'd pull out the cutter and the rows and double check the fabric before cutting.  The last time I worked on it was last year but put it away with many tumblers cut but still needing more.

The quilt is due September 5th at our first meeting or there is a $20.00 ransom, so I guess it was about time I pulled it out again.

The rows are pinned on the design wall so I can double, and triple check the fabrics.

The tumblers I have cut are on my new design boards so I can check against those too

Here are my stats to date:

Need 37 rows of 27 charms  to complete the quilt

Have 24 Rows  Need 13 more rows

Need 351 charms -  Have 232 cut - Need 119 more charms--

Time to dive in to the stash closet.
