February Finishes and NewFO

It's time again to remind myself of all that I have accomplished this February.

I finished up the T-Shirt quilt.

I started and finished a baby quilt for a c0-workers daughter.

I finished my LYOF challenge,  the Baby Flannel Charm Quilt.

I started my Orange Butterfly quilt.

[caption id="attachment_2551" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Feb NewFo Feb NewFo[/caption]

I started this quilt to bring some joy to someone's winter.  I started with Mary's strippie quilt but wanted to make it a bit bigger.  I tried out different fabrics for borders but in the end I decided not to add borders.  Mainly because I'm renting time on a long arm next week to quilt this one and since the beginning I've wanted to quilt words in the open space and outline the butterflys.  Since I rent by the hour and I'm not so fast I think it is just the right size for my attempt at using a new to me long arm.

I'm still working on my Orange Cream. My HST quilt but my sewing machine wants to eat those corners of the triangles so it's sort of slow going right now.

I also started on my second block of Hocuspocusville. Thinking I might want to focus on Hocus a little more if I want it done for this Halloween.

I'm linking up with Barbara at Cat Patches for February's NewFO party. Check out the wonderful projects that people are starting.

Stash Report Week 6, 2014

I received some good news this week.  I'm getting another great nephew and being the Great Aunt that I am I went shopping because, and I'm sure you understand this, I didn't have a thing to make my new Nephew a quilt with.  So really I needed some really cute boy fabric in the colors that Mom has picked out. Right?

[caption id="attachment_2513" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Baby Boy Baby Boy[/caption]

Now we all know what happens when you go to the fabric store that's having a sale after several months weeks of not purchasing fabric, but still sewing your little heart out. Right you need to restock some basics, think five yards of Kona white.  Then as you wander the stacks while very patiently waiting for your turn at the cutting table, quilts start dancing in your head and next thing you know you walk out with a whole new project list..  Just kidding, only one additional quilt and some flannel I needed for our giving quilts.

Lucky for my numbers that I finished up the t-shirt quilt and backing and is at the quilters, made some binding and gave some fabric to a friend for a quilt.

  •  Added this Week:  41 yards

  •  Added this Year:    52.75  yards

  •  Used this Week :  9 yards

  •  Used this Year:     46.00 yards

  • Net Used this Year  -6.75 yards

I'm in red, but I have a few projects that are in the finishing stages and I'll be counting out fabric very soon.

Design Wall Monday January 20, 2014

The design wall is empty this morning but the work table is full.  There are several projects spread across the table.

[caption id="attachment_2471" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Table 1-20-14 Table 1-20-14[/caption]

That stack of orange fabric and the white there by the calculator (that stopped working) are going to be my Orange Cream or maybe I'll call it 50/50.  I was trying to decide what size I wanted and how much fabric to cut.

The back left corner has Valentine fabric and the pattern ready to go.

The black and red are flannel for a giving quilt I am cutting.

The pile by the white fabric is are t-shirts for a customer order for a bed runner.

There you have it hopefully there will be some order to this by next Monday.

In other news:  We went again this year to the old tractor show in Yuma AZ.  These were my favorite tractors.

[caption id="attachment_2469" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Steam Roller Steam Roller[/caption]

You might remember some from last year.  These are the new ones. Check out the steam roller.  There was a raffle for a green John Deere one of these and even though I bought lots of tickets it didn't get to come home with me. But we did find a little blue beauty that did come home.  I'll have photos later this week.

Then driving home we head west and had a most beautiful sunset coming through the mountains.

Memory Quilt Finished

Memory quilt is finished.  This is the one I did for a co-worker at the antique store.  The center is what was left of her Son's baby blanket.  We had been talking about this one for a least a year or more and things would just keep coming up, you know like life.

It's been a while since I've had a finish.  I've been sewing and things are close but not quite.

I'm linking up with Confessions of a Fabric Addict cause this is something to Whoop about!

Stash Report Week 48, 2012

I did it !! I made it on to the plus side before the end of the year.  I won't be staying here very long because I shopped at Connecting Threads Black Friday Sale and that should be here tomorrow.  Yikes!  Good thing we get to reset at zero in a few weeks. :)

I have been finishing up things.  A pillowcase here, a binding there and it's all added up.

  • Added this week: 0

  • Added this year:  234.5

  • Used this week: 10.0

  • Used this year:  238.0

  • Net 2012  3.5 yards

The stash report has been good for me.  It has made me think about what I buy and I've shopped my stash (at least 3 yds).  It has also made me aware of the color gaps in my stash.  Oops that sounds like more shopping.

Just cause I can't seem to post without a photo here is the last t-shirt quilt I did.  It's been delivered so I can show it now.

For more stash reports go to Patchwork times.

Have a great week

Stash Report - Week 43, 2012

I've had a good week in the Used Fabric column.   After I rented time on the long arm to quilt my quilts I waited until I made and sewed down the binding before counting the fabric. I might have to rethink when I count it out or have a better way to keep track then scraps of paper taped to the wall.  :)  I'll show the quilts after I've finish the hand work.

So here's the list of what I'm counting today - 6 pillowcases, Coffee churn dash, Cowboy take 5, Construction, Tumbler.  Just so I don't forget and try to count it again.  Ha

I finished hand stitching down the binding on the t-shirt quilt.  While we had a few cool days, for the most part it's just been to warm to set with a quilt on my lap even in the evening. This one turned out a bit bigger than I'd planned but it's really had to narrow down twenty plus years of riding.

Had a few extras so they went on the back.

I bought this fabric from Connecting Threads back in July and I knew exactly what I wanted to use it for.  I very carefully calculated how much of each fabric I wanted.  Here it is October and I don't have a clue.  I know it included pillowcases and table runners.  Now I'm guessing I should make notes when I order the fabric and put the note with the fabric when it arrives.  I'll make good use of it this week but I'd sure like to know what I had planned.  LOL

I've signed up for a craft faire with a few girlfriends.  I'm trying to make items for the craft faire too.  That's where the pillowcases come in and it's a great way to use my stash for the after holidays sales.

I'm so close to breaking even....but I know I have a box coming this week, so there goes the add column again.

  • Fabric Added this week:  0 yds

  • Fabric Added this year:  199.5 yds

  • Fabric Used this week:  32.75 yds

  • Fabric Used this year:  186.0 yds

  • Net used 2021:  -13.5

We've had a touch of fall here last week and it inspired me to do the front porch.  We have on trick or treaters and no visitors so this is just for us, and you of course.

The Birthday List--A Work In Progress

Warning:  This is a long post with lots of links and a few photos.

Hi my name is Harriett and I love lists.  This is a love that goes back to childhood.  I remember making list during summer vacation, I didn't want to miss out, forget to do, or skip anything during those precious summer months.  Then there is that wonderful feeling of a completed list.  Don't you just love checking off the last thing on the list.

Last year I made a Birthday List  54 Before 55.

I first read about a birthday list on A Beautiful Mess here and here.  I've been inspired by Elsie Larson for many years now.   First when her work appeared in scrapbook magazines and then when she wrote her own book.  I've had her blog bookmark from the beginning.  She is a high energy creative spirit that never fails to inspire me. When I read about her birthday list I thought that I would give it at try.

Here is the results of that attempt.

First I have to tell you that it's not easy to think of 54 things to do in a year if I wanted some of them to be obtainable.  In fact  even though I started my list in August I only got to 52 before my birthday and so that is where it stopped. I was resorting to things like sorting my fabric and scraps. :)

This is what got checked off.

1.  Guest Room - I'm really glad this one got done I'm so happy with it.

7.  Make Harley t-shirt Quilt. - I finished the top in July, just back from quilter and I'm hand stitching down my binding now.

10.  Accucut - I bought myself the Accucut Go and I'm loving it.

20.  Make a Quilt of Valor.  I've made two - Need to get them sent to Alyica

27.  Move office.  This one gets two checks.  I moved the office to the room I'd planned for it and wouldn't you know it I couldn't get internet there so it was moved back to the original room ( sometimes I just shake my head and move on)

32. Empty Storage Garage.  This was a biggie for me.  Paying rent to store stuff for 10 years, really.  It's empty and we only kept half the stuff that was in it. (I should probably sort out some more of that stuff too)

34.  Learn more about using new sewing machine.  I did ok here.  I must admit that I do what I know how and have a hard time setting down to just practice new stuff.

36.  Start Blog.  I'm glad I jumped in and did this.  I still have so much to learn about blogging and pictures and the internet. Blogging has helped me keep on track this year.  Sunday Stash Report, Design Wall Monday, Try it Tuesday, WIP Wednesday, Foto Finish while I might not link up every week they help keep me foucsed  and to be more aware of what is happening in my life.  Thank you Ladies!!!

40.  Clean out main floor.  This gets a half of a check.  We are redoing alot in our home.  We bought the house and contents from the family trust.  My Mother-in-law never got rid of ANYTHING and it was added to during the years the house was in the trust (yes some is ours). We've made great progress and are moving forward every day.

42.  Go to the Zoo.  We have the world famous San Diego Zoo in our backyard and we use to go all the time.  It's been about 3 or 4 years since we'd been but we made it this past July when family came to visit.

43.  Make fall display for porch.  Done and will do again this year

48.  Sort and organize my fabric scraps.  Stop laughing!!  It gets a half check because I'm getting better thank you very much Bonnie Hunter.

Well 12 out of 52. I'm happy with what I did get done.  I'm not upset at all about not doing everything on the list.  The point of this list was to make the effort and acknowledge things that I wanted to do. Some things on the list were a long shot at best like cleaning of the dining room table and keeping it clean ( I have a table problem ok)  I'm keeping the list and just maybe some more things will get checked off this year???

My life is a work in progress always changing always reaching.  I want to see and do so many things.  All of the blogs that were linked to in this post inspire me everyday from sewing to just living I want to take each day and make it count.

I'm linking this work in progress to  WIP at Freshly Pieced

For my Birthday I'm having my very first  give away.  If you've read all the way to the end you deserve a reward.  I'm going to find some fabulous fat quarters from my stash to gift someone.  Just leave a comment and on Saturday night Mr. Bill with draw the lucky name.

Stash Report Week 38, 2012

The weather did cool off for a few days here and I was able to get some outdoor/yard stuff done, but there's always piles more to do. I even got quality time in the sewing room.  The t-shirt quilt top is done and the backing fabric has been ordered.

I pulled out my bin of Halloween fabric because I'm a bit behind (as usual) in starting my holiday sewing.  I had two good days of making pillowcases.  I like this because it uses up the fabric and that means I can restock up at the after halloween sales.  :0)

By the time I was done I totaled 17 pillowcases.  Now I have a few tablerunners I'd like to get done this week.

I went to JoAnns for a 1/2 yard of fabric and 5 more yards jumped in the cart.  How does that happen.  The good part is that most if it has been used and all that left is the fabric for the tablerunners.

  • Added this week:  5.5 yds

  • Added this year:  176.25 yds

  • Used this week:  21 yds

  • Used this year:  142.25

  • Net 2012  -34 yds

Last week Judy mentioned that there were 15 weeks left in the year and today I read that there are 100 days (99 today) left in the year. Yes I want to know where the year went and why it goes so fast.  I think that writing a blog this year has helped me keep track, it's helped me set goals and keep them.  There is room for improvement as always and as I think about my goals for the next 99 days there is still a lot I'd like to get done this year.  I could make a nice long list  or I can focus on a few big goals.  Some thing to think about this evening while I sew some binding.

Stash Report, Design Wall, NewFO Catch-Up

Oh My!  I'm so behind.  Work and the long weekend is my story and I'm sticking to it.

Stash Report has not changed.  I've been sewing but can't count the fabric yet.  So the short version of my stash report is:  No fabric in or out and my total is still -45.5.  With is being National Sewing Month maybe I'll be able to move those numbers.

My design wall is empty :(  I took down my churn dash blocks to put up some t-shirt blocks.  I've finished the churn dash blocks so now it's triangles.

I did some cleaning up in the sewing room too.  Sometimes you just have to stop and clean up to see where you're going.   Ok just a little clean-up, I didn't want to go overboard or I wouldn't be able to find anything.

I took down the t-shirts and laid them out on the floor, for some reason laying t-shirt quilts on the floor is easier for me.

Goal this week is to sash up the t-shirt quilt and make those setting triangles for the churn dash blocks.

I started a NewFO on Thursday, I really hadn't planned to start a new FO in August (bet you haven't heard that one before) but I saw the box of fabric that I'd been saving and then I thought well I should make start that quilt for someone's Christmas present.  Pulled it out and started cutting.  I'd planned to do it as a leader/ender but I'm not real good at that.  When I have the blocks cut out I want to sew them now!  We'll see how I do with it. Can't show too much, Christmas and all that, but this is a special quilt and I'm taking pic and writing about it in my head so you'll get the full story.

WIP - T-shirt quilt.  This is a throw size so once I have the lay-out I like it should come together. Christmas gift-Still cutting.  Churn  Dash- need those setting triangles.

My upholstery class starts up tonight, this makes me happy.  I'll get to see my upholstery buddies and I'm starting on a new chair.  I'm thinking about Upholstery Thursday during the school year.  If I can figure out that link stuff I'll make it a linking party of upholstery projects.

I'm late but I'm still linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times for the Stash Report and Design Wall Monday.

Check out the other NewFO at Cat Patches, and Barbara's beautiful photography .

Today I'm linking up for WIP at Freshly Pieced.

Design Wall Monday Aug 13, 2012

My design wall hasn't changed at all this week.  So much for learning those setting triangles. :)

So while the wall is the same the cutting table is full of t-shirts.  Another t-shirt quilt is in the works.  I never would have guessed that I would like making t-shirt quilts but I love the puzzle of it.

It's late here but I'm linking up to Patchwork Times anyway.  I've got to get this on to a morning routine.
