Just a little Progress..BFCO Day 2

On the sewing list I made some progress. I got up early and got four rows of the red/white quilt sewn.

No cleaning out today. Had to ship a box today so I did some straightening in the shipping room so I'm counting that.

Tomorrow I'm planning a big sewing day and Quilt Club tomorrow night. I'll be taking Christmas 1 to work on.

Big Fall Clean Out Day 1

A while back last week I was trying to find something. It wasn't a big thing but it was important for what I was doing at the time.  I searched and searched. I looked and looked. It was so frustrating because I'd been so careful not to miss place this item. As I was looking for said item, I even looked in places that it could not be unless it walked there it's self. Know what I mean.

This lead me to make a few decisions.  It was sheer coincidence that it was the first day of Autumn. That also according to the calendar there were 100 days left in this year.  What was I going to accomplish in the next 100 days?

There is a need here to clean out so that has lead to THE BIG FALL CLEAN OUT.

Here are my guidelines:

1. Official start October 1st.

2. No stashing, stocking up. Everything bought in the next 100 days has to be consumed. (I might have to make an exception for the day after Thanksgiving)

3. Work on making product for November Craft Show.

That is basically it. K.I.S.S.

So today's clean out:

Bottom two shelves in pantry. Sorted paper bags. Silverware drawer. Cleaned off the kitchen counter.

[caption id="attachment_2311" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Drawer Drawer[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_2312" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Counter Counter[/caption]

Really it won't take long for that counter to get filled up again.

Sewing/Product

Finished the blocks for the red/white quilt.

Started taking apart stool so Mr. Bill can paint the legs. Since he said he would paint the stool I snuck in a magazine rack and a chair too.  I was just trying to make it easy on him since I want them all the same color. :-)

Ok that was day one of my Big Fall Clean Out.  Let's see how far I go.

September NewFO

I almost got out of September with out a NewFO, but I didn't quite finish a few things so I get to join the NewFo Party again this month.

The calendar says it's fall even if the weather here didn't get the message so I started this little flannel fall quilt.  It's now basted and ready to quilt.

I also have a couple of Halloween table runners to finish up. They are also layered and ready to quilt, but here are the fabrics I'm using.  Don't you just love the spider color dots on the selvage.

Here is a little update on last months NewFO.  I was just starting to trace my Hocupocusville blocks.  This is my homemade light box.  A thick piece of glass (maybe it use to be on a desk top) on top of some covered 2x4's with a couple of lights under it.  This really helps tracing on the darker fabrics.

This month I've painted three blocks and I've started the embroidery so I'm using my darling Needle Nanny that I won last month when I had the luck NewFo number.

This darling needle nanny is fantastic.  That needle does not go anywhere.

My little lama is so adorable!! Thank You So Much Barbara. I also received my very own portrait of Smitty. :)

Stash Report Week 38, 2013

It's been a long time since my last stash report.  I've had a few distractions around here.

[caption id="attachment_2280" align="aligncenter" width="300"]It started with this It started with this[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_2281" align="aligncenter" width="300"]That lead to this That lead to this[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_2284" align="aligncenter" width="225"]Then this Then this[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_2285" align="aligncenter" width="225"]Finally this. Finally this.[/caption]

Everything is back together again but what job it turned out to be.

The good news is that I have been doing some sewing not as much as I thought.  The other good news is that there has also been some shopping.

I usually just stack my fabric purchases for a photo cause you never know if "you know who" might be reading a post. :)

This time some fabrics were just so cute they had to have their own photo.

[caption id="attachment_2287" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Thanksgiving Thanksgiving[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_2288" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Christmas Christmas[/caption]

Everything has a purpose and is in it's project bag.

Here are this weeks numbers;

  • Added since last report: 20.25 yards

  • Added this year: 347.25 yards

  • Used since last report: 42.50 yards

  • Used this year: 151.25 yards

  • Net 2012  -196.00 yards

I only have to use 96 yards by the end of the year to make my goal of being under 100 yards stashed.  I do have a lot of sewing to do by then but I'm thinking I'll have to adjust that goal.

August New FO

August is ending and I started two new quilts this month, both are in the beginning stage.  Don't you just love the excitement of starting a new quilt.  The colors, the cutting, the anticipation of beautiful blocks coming off the sewing machine.

This one is a Christmas gift, I know about time it got started.  I using this Sweet Menagerie pattern from Moda Bake Shop.  Is it just me or does anyone else have problems with precuts.  I mean really if I wanted a bad cut (too narrow and wonky) I can do those myself.  Really isn't the point of precuts to make it easier? But I digress.

[caption id="attachment_2258" align="aligncenter" width="225"]Christmas 1 Christmas 1[/caption]

I'm using a Hello Gorgeous Jelly Roll with white sashing. Love the colors in this line and I'm looking forward to working on this top this Labor Day Weekend.

My second start is a quilt that I've wanted to make for the longest time.  Since I first saw this quilt four years ago I've wanted this quilt. This quilt has be brewing!  After seeing this quilt I started looking for the pattern and bought it shortly after.  Always there in my pattern box asking is now the time?  Then almost two years ago I bought the fabric kit for the center of the quilt.  Now I've jumped in with both feet and I'm making my  Hocuspocusville quilt.  I'm so excited to be starting this quilt.

Labor Day Weekend Goals

Labor Day Weekend is here, the official, unofficial end of summer.  Except for the weather here there have been signs that summer is winding down.  It's not light outside when I wake up, the pumpkins are turning orange, traffic around the school has increased.  In truth I am ready for fall.  It's my most favorite time of year.

Jo at Jo's Country Junction has suggested listing our Labor Day Weekend Sewing Goals....Sounds good to me the List Maker. I've tried to keep it short and doable.

1. Fall Pillowcases

2. Trace all my Hocuspocusville blocks

[caption id="attachment_2257" align="aligncenter" width="225"]Hocupocusville Hocupocusville[/caption]

3. Two Aprons

4. Finish Cutting and Sewing 9 Patch blocks for Christmas present #1

[caption id="attachment_2258" align="aligncenter" width="225"]Christmas 1 Christmas 1[/caption]

Ok so I think I listed more than I'll have time for, I work on Saturday at the Antique Store and Sunday we've plans for a few hours in the afternoon.  Like it's the first time I wouldn't finish a list. :)

What ever you do this weekend, enjoy every minute of your last unofficial weekend of summer.

Design Wall Monday August 13, 2013

It's Monday again and time to check out the progress on my tumbler charm quilt.  In spite if several distractions I was able to make progress on the charm quilt this week.

I decided on a border color and all the charms were cut.  Saturday late afternoon I was able to start on the last 13 rows and finished them up by Sunday afternoon.  I now have 37 rows of 27 mini tumbler charms.  Now I need to sew a grey tumbler on each end of each row and then sew two rows of grey for the top and bottom border.

[caption id="attachment_2244" align="aligncenter" width="225"]Mini Tumbler Charm Mini Tumbler Charm[/caption]

Of course this is the week that the both sewing machines have appointments at the sewing machine spa.  I've so very lucky that my new sewing machine shop makes appointments so I don't have the two to three week wait time that I use to have.  I plan to use the down time this week to clean up the sewing room that looks like  a fabric tornado came through.

[caption id="attachment_2243" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Bonus. Used up 10 of these Bonus. Used up 10 of these[/caption]

I'll need to go through the closet for a backing and then I'm thinking about how I want to quilt it.  Did I mention that it has to be done, as in completely done by Sept 5th.  Yikes and no machine time until Friday or Saturday.
