Design Wall Monday January 27, 2014
Up on the design wall today is a t-shirt quilt. I worked on it Thursday cutting t-shirts and ironing the interfacing and cutting again. Started adding sashing and that's as far as I got before my super busy weekend started on Friday.
I spent some time sorting through the bins of flannel yesterday afternoon. K and I have spent three Thursday Nights at quilt club matching and cutting flannel. We have 8-10 quilts kitted up so I thought I'd organize the flannel we had left. It doesn't even look like we made a dent in the bins. I thought for sure we emptied at least one bin and I really think we did it's just that not all the flannel was in bins before. News Flash::

I DO NOT NEED ANY FLANNEL
I was wondering if you can make string quilts with flannel or does it get to bulky. Guess I'll give it a try.

Stash Report Week 4, 2014
Fabric was purchased this week. My quilting buddy and I went to Road To California Quilt Show on Friday and I walked away with 7 yards of fabric (at $5.00 a yard and I know exactly what I want to use it for) and one pattern. The good news is that there was also fabric going out this week. So it's all good and I'm still ahead on using my stash.
I hope to get a couple of quilts back from the longarm quilter and get the binding on them so I can count that out too.
For more stash busting head over to Judy's at Patchwork Times.
- Added this Week: 7 yards

Design Wall Monday January 20, 2014
The design wall is empty this morning but the work table is full. There are several projects spread across the table.
[caption id="attachment_2471" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Table 1-20-14[/caption]
That stack of orange fabric and the white there by the calculator (that stopped working) are going to be my Orange Cream or maybe I'll call it 50/50. I was trying to decide what size I wanted and how much fabric to cut.
The back left corner has Valentine fabric and the pattern ready to go.
The black and red are flannel for a giving quilt I am cutting.
The pile by the white fabric is are t-shirts for a customer order for a bed runner.
There you have it hopefully there will be some order to this by next Monday.
In other news: We went again this year to the old tractor show in Yuma AZ. These were my favorite tractors.
[caption id="attachment_2468" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Farmall[/caption]
[caption id="attachment_2469" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Steam Roller[/caption]
You might remember some from last year. These are the new ones. Check out the steam roller. There was a raffle for a green John Deere one of these and even though I bought lots of tickets it didn't get to come home with me. But we did find a little blue beauty that did come home. I'll have photos later this week.
Then driving home we head west and had a most beautiful sunset coming through the mountains.

Stash Report Week 3, 2013
It had to happen and really for it not to happen before now is surprising. That's right I bought fabric. Needed to freshen up my Valentine collection.
[caption id="attachment_2462" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Valentine Fabrics[/caption]
Then on the out going side I finish my Flannel Woods, made the back and it's at the quilters, I get to count some out.
[caption id="attachment_2461" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Flannel Woods Top[/caption]
On the Flannel Giving Quilts I kitted two more quilts (and started sewing one). I'm still working on the best way to track the flannel. At the end of the year it will be combine with the outgoing fabric number. I'm just tracking it ...well..just cause, I guess. But it's counted when cut and the general stash is counted when done. I think I'm over thinking this but I should get it straight by the end of the year.
Well I'm still on the plus side for fabric out and that is a good thing.

2014 UFO / Project List
I've finally finished making my UFO list and Project List only because I called it finished. I'm thinking that there are more lurking around on the top floor but they are hiding resting right now and I'll deal with those later because really I have more than enough to keep me busy this year and then some.
This years final tally is 31 UFO's and 20 Projects. Now we all know that I'm not going to finish all of them this year, but I'm sure going to cross a lot of them off as done.
They are all in various states of being done from just being cut out, to a few blocks sewn, to just wait for borders.
2014 UFO'S
I'm doing one on the list every month with A Lovely Year of Finishes and I'm challenging myself to do one a month on my own.
Projects are things I want to make, the fabric has been pulled and is in a project(zip lock) bag. Any project not done by years end and I'm not totally in love with it anymore the fabric will be put back in the stash. I did sort through this pretty well, some fabric did go back but there are some on here that have been carried over for a while.
2014 Project List
The plan for working on the Project List is starting and hopefully finish one each month for the NewFO Challenge at Cat Patches.
So there it all is written out in black and white. No getting around it now. This in my year of finishes.

Design Wall Monday January 13, 2014
Still have Flannel Woods up on the wall. I have the rows sewn together and the first little border cut. I have plenty more squares but this is as large as Mr Bill wants it, so I see a second one of these flannel quilts in the future.
[caption id="attachment_2446" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Flannel Woods[/caption]
I think I finally have the sewing room rearranged so it will work for me. Which is the reason I don't have the borders on yet I've probably moved my sewing and cutting tables at least twice a day for the last week.
Tonight I really hope to spend a good hour or two in the room sewing.

Stash Report Week 2, 2014
So far so good, no fabric coming in for the first time in 52 weeks I'm a head of the game. :)
I used some for the binding on my Snowman Quilt, and some for my Woods quilt.
[caption id="attachment_2436" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Snowman Quilt[/caption]
I'm changing my tracking just a little bit.
This year my quilting buddy and I are using up flannel. You see a few years ago we both went a little tiny bit overboard at that day after Thanksgiving flannel sale and maybe the next year too. We are making giving (donation) quilts with it this year. We want to have several ready for when the need arises.
I normally count out my fabric when the top is made, back is made and then the binding when it is sewn on. For the flannel I'm going to count it out when it's cut, because we are cutting and kitting up four to six quilts at a time. We spent one evening this past week pulling fabric but only got one kit cut so that is what I'll count this week. All this to say I'm adding a line to my stash report this year to reflect our flannel leaving the stash. We want to use what we have but we might have to buy just a bit to balance out a quilt.
The reason I'm including it in my stash report is that it is stored at my house and ok I had six (or maybe more) bins to her two bins when she brought it over last year. It's all mixed together now and it will be leaving my house. But that's the whole point here, is to use it up right?

First Finish of 2014
Yes I'm thrilled to have a first finish in the first month of the year.
[caption id="attachment_2436" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Snowman Quilt[/caption]
This quilt is for a customer who wanted decorate with a snowman quilt for January. Do you know it's not easy to find snowman fabric with out Christmas tress, but I searched and searched and found this darling snowman skier panel.
Added boarders and then machine quilted 1/4 in. on the inside borders. Did a big zig zag on the big outside border that looks like mountain peaks (at least it does to me) and hand stitched the outline of the snowman, traced snowflakes in the corners and hand stitch that too in blue perle cotton.
I'm really happy how this turned out. It has been a really long time (like years) since I've done any hand quilting and this made me want to do more.
I'm whooping it up with my fist finish of 2014 by linking with Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict and Richard Quilts

LYOF January Goal
I'm joining the Lovely Year Of Finishes party over at Fiber of All Sorts.
January Goal is to finish my Flannel Woods quilt for Mr. Bill. I pulled it out and put the four rows that have been sewn together on the wall. I have another row of blocks ready to be sewn together, and I sorted out the charms for the rest of the rows.
Finished on this one is to have the top done. Bonus is to have it back from the quilter and have the binding done.

What I'm Working On and Goal Setting
A while back, like the middle of December it got a bit chilly here. I mean some mornings it was 40 degrees when we got up in the morning. That was when Mr. Bill requested a fuzzy quilt and being the sweetheart I am, cough, cough I jumped right on it. Then this being southern CA we got a warming trend and it got put away for a while as I was cleaning the sewing room.
[caption id="attachment_2422" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Flannel Woods[/caption]
Since I started it last year and it was put away in a project bag, I'm calling it a UFO. That way when I finish it I'll get to check it off the UFO list. I'm clever that way.
Speaking of UFO's so far I've listed 26 UFO's, 12 pulled projects and 2 long term projects. Now you know why I want to have something to cross off the list. :)
Since I've worked almost everyday since Christmas I'm giving myself to Friday to finish my list, yes I'm afraid there are more UFO/Projects lurking about in the sewing room. They are hiding but I will seek them out.
My goal is to work thru half of my UFO list what ever that number ends up being and half of my pulled projects and when I want to start something new it really should be one of them but I know that others things will get started too.
To what other people are working on head over to Judy's at Patchwork Times.

Stash Report Week 1, 2014
I'm off to a great start this new year, only because I've had zero time to even think about going to a fabric store. (Like I really NEED to).
So I just could pass up the chance to say nothing in this week!!
There hasn't been a lot of sewing either, but it will happen.
In this Week : 0 yards
Out this Week: 0 yards
If you've read this far you at least deserve a photo. Here is sunset on Jan 1, 2014
