Here is my first string quilt. I've heard how easy and quick they are. I've been saving strips for some time and when someone at quilt club brought in one I decided it was time. So I'm thinking about boarders maybe something blue??
To get my yardage for this quilt I measured two sides then did the math for square yards. How do you measure the yardage for scrap quilts?

Harriett, Your QOV quilt is beautiful. How you measured for yardage is perfectly fine. Your are actually less than it would be if you cut yardage into specific strips and then sewed them. I do a lot of scrap and string blocks and use either EQ7 for my yardage based on a particular block size, or my fabric calculator to figure yardage by W x L.
ReplyDeleteI love your logic, Harriet, about keeping the fabric outside the sewing room, gave me a chuckle. I like the quilt just as it is. I lay what I've made from the scraps on the cutting boards and see how much it covers. Then I add a 10th to it for seams and count that as my use.
ReplyDeleteI love it!! Blue would look very nice. Usually by the time I get to making the string blocks - all the fabric is left overs from other projects and has already been counted as *out* so I am no help there.
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt!!
